Music and singing has always been a big part of Apryl Renee''s life. Renee started tinkering with the piano at age four, and began taking serious lessons at age eight. "I used to go with my mom when she was taking lessons," Renee says. "My mom noticed that I had an interest in playing the piano, so she went out and got one of those big, stand-up pianos so I could play all the time." After winning numerous awards for her songbird talents in high school, Renee enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At UNC, Renee quickly became one of the lead vocalists for the gospel choir. She also began earning a reputation as a pure singer much in the same tradition as Whitney Houston, whom Renee credits with being a major influence.
Sometimes it only takes one experience to make a person realize their destiny. For Apryl Renee, that experience was performing at the famed Apollo Theater in Harlem during Amateur Night, where she advanced to the showoff round. "Performing at the Apollo gave me more motivation to do what I wanted to do, which was to sing," Renee says. "That experience taught me that I didn''t need to put singing on the shelf; that I could sing for a living and be successful."
Possessing all the qualities for stardom - beauty, charm, grace and talent, Apryl Renee is poised to lure you into her world of music.
