Details:
A resident of Baltimore, County, Maryland, Allen (A.J.) Bolyard''s interest in music began when he was eight years old. He joined the drum core in the fourth grade. In the fifth grade, he switched to the saxophone and played first chair in the concert, jazz and pep band throughout grade school. At fourteen, eager to learn other instruments, he started playing guitar and was self-taught for two years. Having learned all he could on his own, A.J. sought private lessons from an accomplished guitar teacher. At age sixteen, his best friend, an extremely talented drummer, inspired him to return to playing drums. Next came bass guitar and piano and, once again, A.J. taught himself! While attending McDonogh High School, he played guitar for the band Circus Freaks and saxophone for the band The Suburbanites. A.J. graduated high school with the Stuart Honors Performance Award, given to the student who displays the most talent and dedication in his/her respective art. A.J. intensified his music studies at Washington College where he became the guitarist for the band Hijinx during his last three years. After graduating with a degree in Business Management and Music Theory, A.J. persisted in writing and recording music, playing all of the instruments himself, as he continued to search for the right singer to compliment his material and compose the lyrics. Finally, after single-handedly recording over fifty songs, he found her. Nineteen-year-old Samantha Darnell (Sam) grew up singing from age three in Harford County, Maryland. First exposed to music by seeing her fathers band play at area festivals and clubs, she started by entertaining at family gatherings, writing her first song at age seven. In fifth grade, Sam joined her school choir and immediately received solos. She took vocal lessons for a couple of years to really develop her voice, singing everything from pop to Broadway to opera. Upon discovering Sams three and a half octave range, her vocal teacher suggested talent shows as a way to gain experience and recognition. Sam sang everywhere nearby her small town and won several awards at area contests, some of which were published in the local newspapers. In her middle school chorus, she was known as the girl with the highest range. At fourteen, she auditioned for G&M Entertainment, based in Baltimore City. They helped develop her stage presence, provided her with more vocal lessons and placed her in their talent showcase. When the companys C.E.O. recognized her potential, he became her manager, put Sam into a recording studio in Baltimore to work on her first demo and booked her first nightclub gig. The relationship, ultimately, did not work out and her demo was never completed. Disappointed, Sam turned to her uncle, a versatile musician, who co-wrote a few songs with her and recorded them in his home studio. With her first completed demo, Sam tried to find her second manager and caught the interest of a New Jersey radio DJ. Though he interviewed her on radio station, 89.3 CFM, to help get her name out to the public, he did not become her manager. Finally, after many meetings with possible managers, she found Charles Altholz of Chicago-based CKA Artist Management, who shes happily been with since 2003. While Sam finished high school, he produced a professional six-song demo, including a ballad by two-time Emmy Award winner, Gloria Sklerov, a music video and photographs to present her to record labels. During this time, Sam sang the National Anthem and God Bless America for thousands at the Cal Ripken stadium. Then, after graduating from North Harford High School, just as they were ready to shop the demo, Sam had a change of heart. Deciding the cookie-cutter pop image just wasnt who she really is, Sam joined the emo/punk band RoseMatter, based in York, Pennsylvania, at age eighteen. Playing countless shows throughout Maryland and Pennsylvania, Sam gained a great fan base and discovered that her niche was rock! She left the band six months later and formed her own band, Burkins. They recorded a three-song demo, but later broke up because of disagreements in direction. When she turned nineteen, she made the cover of Womens I magazine, which featured her journey to date as she pursues her life-long dream to become a singing superstar. Sam had written over thirty songs when she, at last, met A.J. and the match was perfect! Since November of 2005, theyve been making music, hoping to give the music industry something fresh and unique, as well as catchy and marketable.
