Details:

Tub Dub (Sure Footed)
Thudding deep bass and funky beats are backed by a chorus of voices in counter melody, in a song about a planned seduction. Twinkling piano and hand drums drive the track to its ironic conclusion with the singer determined to stand her ground.

Beyond Repair
Growling bass, dirty retro Nu-jazz beats and swirling strings echo with themes of money grabbing, gambling and bailiffs that come knocking at your door. Like the current political climate, what has been broken cannot ever be put together again. There are no more aces, the relationship gamble has been lost.

Peppermint Rock
Electro-jazz dub bass slides and glides with operatic strings. We wonder at the world we have built for ourselves and say: ‘The rot runs from the bottom to the top, just like Peppermint Rock’.

I love You, I’m Sorry
A haunting string line woven with confessional lyrics about someone who has taken a dark path. A song that pleads: ‘I love you, look at me, I’m sorry’.

‘if Nick Cave was a lady……and was a fan of jazz music, then he''d be a little bit like Caroline Ty…..exotic rhythms and big vocals, crashing in waves against a pebbly beach of contemporary lyrics and new-wave poetry’. The Mag

Following the successful release by Kent based songwriter Caroline Ty of ‘The Trap EP’ in 2009 and ‘Love and Honey EP’ in 2010 comes the new EP ‘They are only Human, but we treat them like Gods’ available as a digital download from 28th March 2011.
Four self-penned and performed tracks in a dizzy Nu-jazz infusion of dub bass, old skool funky beats and haunting strings. The confessional and sometimes richly dark and ironic song lyrics are delivered in a bluesy mezzo vocal. The lyrics invoke the current zeitgeist of money grabbing, broken promises and regret.
All tracks were recorded and produced by Caroline in Kent. Mixing and mastering by Ali at Transmission Studios based in Hove.

‘Far away percussion and spacey synths play host to a woozily seductive vocal. As everything goes off at odd angles, there’s something strangely obsessive about Caroline’s declarations of devotion. Like a stalker. But a stalker you’d say hello to’. https://www.tradebit.com

London born songwriter Caroline Ty (short for Tychewicz) produces Nu-jazz pop with bluesy mezzo vocals and richly dark lyrical song themes, a fusion of electronic and organic. Music you can dance to, but always with a dark undertone somewhere in the chord changes, as if not all is well at the party. Influenced musically by New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Massive Attack and Depeche Mode, vocal inspiration comes from expressive singers like Nina Simone and Dusty Springfield who tell the story of the song sincerely and without vocal acrobatics. Lyrical influences are songwriters like Nick Cave, Guy Garvey and Leonard Cohen, who use strong imaginary and rich poetic language. In an interview with The Kent on Sunday Caroline describes her approach: ‘Lots of pop music at the moment is about trying to write to a specific formula, because they are tailored towards making money or having a hit. If you are putting that aside and writing from the heart, something that is quite sincere and personal, you will naturally avoid clichés anyway. It’s terrible when you hear a new song for the first time and you can guess what the next line will be. There’s a hunger for something original, and that’s where unsigned bands are coming into their own at the moment’.
The second EP ‘Love and Honey’, released in March 2010 was described by The Mag as: ‘exotic rhythms and big vocals, crashing in waves against a pebbly beach of contemporary lyrics and new-wave poetry’. The song ‘Whistle and I’ll Come to You’ from the EP was a commended entry in the Adult Contemporary category in the 2010 UK Songwriting Contest. https://www.tradebit.com noted that ‘there’s something strangely obsessive about Caroline’s declarations of devotion. Like a stalker. But a stalker you’d say hello to’.
The latest EP scheduled for release in 2011 ‘They are only Human, but we treat them like Gods’ is a collection of 4 original Electro-jazz tracks, blending elements of retro sampling, fat funky beats, sweeping strings and confessional, sometimes ironic lyrics that capture the current political zeitgeist of money grabbing, deception and broken promises.
