"The music of The Taxidermist is almost cinematic in nature. With its neo-synth undertone and industrial edge, the song “Suicide Pilot” sounds like something taken straight from Ridley Scott’s film Blade Runner. It paints a soundscape that is symbolically cold and bleak. It’s easy to picture someone stumbling through the ashes of a strange new world, or more metaphorically their life, as they seek warmth, light and retribution. The Depeche Mode inspired synths add to this by giving the illusion of an otherworldly vibe, while the vocals act paradoxically as both a comfort from the perceived bleak oasis and a haunting narration to the isolation. It’s an extraordinarily complex song, but it’s just one of many found off of this album.
“History of Violence” is another atmospheric song. Like “ Suicide Pilot,” it has a clear industrial edge, but with a bit more of a pop flair. The piano instrumentals add a layer of intimacy to the song, while the drumbeat is its pounding heart. Throw in some incredible vocals provided by Paron, and the result is moody, sultry and almost sinister in nature. The kind of darkness found on this track, along with many off of The Taxidermist, is rich with sex appeal. It’s passion mixed with temptation and desire. Vocally Paron is on par with Tori Amos. They both hold the same sweet yet haunting quality to their voice. The stylistic similarities are undeniable in the songs “Counting Days” and “Horse Fury.” Both songs have the same dark carnival vibe that was particularly prominent in Amos’s early work. While the music behind both of these tracks is spectacular, it is her vocals that entrance the listener. It’s edgy yet sweet, warm yet aloof. Paron is the voice of the modern-day siren song.
The only real criticism there is about The Taxidermist is that the second half of the album isn’t nearly as strong as the first. It’s not that tracks like “Something I Can Feel” and “Ashes” are bad, but they don’t hold the same energy as the songs featured first on the album. They are solid tracks that are extraordinarily well produced, but when compared to the near tribal beat of “Suicide Pilot” or the industrial pop sounds of “Counting Days,” they come off as a bit listless. Still, these tracks do feature Paron’s vocals at their best. “Something I Can Feel” in particular is soft, sensual and downright sexy, while “Ashes” is smooth yet stirring in its near operatic influence.
The music industry today seems to be sorely missing originality. Scarlet Season is a breath of fresh air. The tracks presented on The Taxidermist are original and captivating. This is the type of album that makes music exciting again!"

Scarlet Season is a project created by Seattle artist Aileen Paron to support an evolution from singer/songwriter into fully fledged writer, composer and producer. Though still grounded in a song-centric, piano pop/rock style, the music of Scarlet Season pushes into darker, edgier waters with the addition of swirling synths, nasty basses, and moody electronic elements. The resulting sound is what you might get from a mash-up of artists like Bjork, Tori Amos, Goldfrapp, Bat for Lashes and Depeche Mode.
Already a self-taught songwriter and pianist, Ms. Paron’s desire for autonomy and passion for learning all things musical inspired her to take the DIY approach and learn the art of recording, programming, and composing. The result is the debut album, The Taxidermist, which she co-produced with Matt Frickelton (The Fading Collection). The songs on the record chronicle themes of anger, loss, betrayal and loneliness; they are admittedly personal and at times even uncomfortably so. The album is slated for general release in early 2011, with supporting shows in and around the Pacific Northwest currently being planned.
Aileen Paron fell in love with performing at an early age and subsequently made herself at home on the stage as a dancer and actor. After moving to Seattle in 2000, she began writing and performing her own music, releasing her first CD, Anonyma, in 2006. She has performed on stages across the country as a solo artist, and as support for other artists, including a recent year-long stint with Seattle artist Anomie Belle. In 2010 she was forced to take a hiatus from performing live due to a battle with debilitating chronic migraines. During that time she recorded The Taxidermist under the project name of Scarlet Season. She plans to be performing again in support of the release in early 2011.
