Details:
Lucas Dix and Gavin Theory began their lives taught to be wary of each other''s village''s clan. Lucas Dix was born to the Claud Six people, green thumbed ground tillers of the sunny Eastern Valley, while Gavin Theory was born to the Mysterioso people, sky travelers of the shadowy Northern Slopes. The two villages had long been at odds because of their conflicting ideologies. The Mysteriosos were nocturnal beings who spent their time either tracking the movement of the stars or exploring space in meticulousy designed crafts of glass and metal, always eager to learn new things about the Universe and themselves. The little attention they paid to Earth was merely to hunt for sustenance or to collect materials to fuel further exploration. This directly clashed with the very pleasant and simple lifestyle of the Claud Six people, who woke early to reap, sew, and create from their numerous cultivated plants. Once their work was done, they would relax with each other and sip their fine ales, eat extravagant feasts, smoke their herbs and sing songs into the evening. The only real similarities between the neighboring cultures was that they shared a small lake as their only source of fresh water and both had a love for language and the spoken word. The Mysteriosos were reknowned engaging storytellers and had become great at conversing with many different types of people on their adventures, while the Claud Six people were extremely open and understanding people who communicated all day to one another, and had gotten to know each other intimately. They were also well liked and trusted by all who talked to them.

One evening, as the two now young men were cautiously glancing toward each other while gathering water for their villages from different parts of the lake, they both suddenly looked up. On the far off horizon past their quiet villages, a great brilliant white light burst into the sky. Gavin and Lucas squinted as an oddly shaped plume of smoke pushed away from the ground rapidly. Then came the sound, a violent gastophony that shook the world and muted the cries of every living thing. The pair of young men quickly dove into the lake in a panicked desperation. Holding their breaths for a longer time than either thought themselves previously capable. Their minds went silent, overcome by horror, while their bodies sustained, enveloped in the salubrious waters.

After an inperceivable amount of time, Gavin Theory and Lucas Dix emerged from the lake to survey the uncertain. The once extremely familiar landscape was now alien. The trees were blackened, broken, and lay uniformly flat on the ground, like a fierce and fiery hurricane had rushed over them. Both of the young men took but a second to take in this foreign spectacle before they began sprinting towards their respective villages, hoping, against logic, that anything remained. As their panicked runs came to an end and they came to where their villages once were, all they saw were nearly unrecognizable charred remants. Pieces of what used to a hut, an arm, a sickle, all burnt to the same ashy consistency that disintegrated upon contact. Not knowing any other option, Gavin and Lucas separately returned to the torched sand beside lake and sat silently near each other in despair. There they remained until well after nightfall when the young men finally dropped to sleep in exhaustion.

In the morning, Gavin and Lucas awoke and dipped their heads in the lake to clear the dirt from their faces and get a drink. Then, without speaking, they began walking, not knowing where they going except away and would likely never return. By dusk on the first day of walking the two had just learned each other''s first names. Within a week, the two were talking non-stop and had shared just about every story they could think of. At the end of the first month of walking, the two were now musing about the universe, the land, the mind and more back and forth in a kind of hypnotic rhyme and rhthym to the tempo of their footsteps. When Gavin and Lucas finally saw their first signs of another civilization at the end of the second month, they had spent the previous month not simply conversing but creating elaborate rhyme schemes while twisting bizarre or antiquated language in extremely developed patterns for the entirety of their walking day.

Adjusting to life in the modern world wasn''t easy for the young men at first. Gavin Theory had heard stories from Mysterioso elders about the world, though he had never ventured anywhere besides brief training trips around the Moon. Lucas Dix knew even less and was all but completely obliviously to the existence of the rest of the world. They had to get low paying jobs to support a meager life in a small apartment. On top of this, the two were feeling more unusual by the day. Their minds seemed to be working faster by the minute, strange visions and epiphanies overcrowded their perceptions, and long after their walk was over, their minds were still producing rhymes and rhythms at an overwhelming rate. They would later find out this was due to a large dose of radiation both had received from the blast that destroyed their villages and killed their clans. However, this abundance of creativity gave them an outlet to remember and honor their former ways of life and deal with the loss they had sustained.

Gavin and Lucas soon discovered hip hop music and instantly felt like, if anywhere, this was where they were going to fit in this brave new world. Gavin Theory got his hands on a used Music Production Center machine and started organizing sounds. He took to the technology quickly, finding it was similar to the console of the intricately crafted space ships he had spent his entire childhood practicing to pilot. Lucas Dix began reading novels and poetry books by the day and gathered a great sense of the cultural history they found themselves submerged in. In a work by American poet Robert Frost, Gavin and Lucas took a liking to a phrase referencing ''Hives Inquiry Squad'' and adopted the name for themselves. They started composing songs and performing for people as often as possible, realizing quickly that while some people found it confusing, the rest were intrigued by the pictures they would paint and ideas they would share.

Once they had saved enough money, they decided to once again travel and find a city they could better practice and perfect their craft while holding on to a sense of some of the elements they had grown up around. After trying a few places that they enjoyed but didn''t feel they quite belonged in, Gavin and Lucas found themselves happening upon Portland, OR. The people, the city, the nature, all gave them some sense of home and they fit right in. They set to performing and began building a fan base of interesting thinkers, odd avant gardes and rando freak seekers. After a couple years of grinding daily to spread their message person by person and create a solid catalogue of songs, the duo finally released their debut album, "Edifice," to critical acclaim. They''d say the music sounds like the first glimpse of Earth once you emerge from the darkside of the Moon and feels herbs and ales after a long day in the field. With Gavin Theory''s production and narratives from both of our protagonists, "Edifice" is but a glimpse into the world as it was and is from the duo of Hives Inquiry Squad.
