Details:
Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, David began his musical career as an instrumentalist for other artists and has developed into a gifted songwriter in his own right. Compassionate and spiritual, his intimate voice will draw you into his world, filled with tales of quiet desperation, longing and the triumph of the human spirit.

Vancouver''s Georgia Strait Magazine says of David - "His warm, mellow voice is set off by his fine guitar work...pure pleasure".

Winnipeg''s Stylus Magazine wrote: "David Lum has a knack for noting sharp observations without sharp words, thus is able to tackle some subjects with ease that others stumble on. He also manages to find a silver lining in every cloud and build on it while keeping his feet on the ground. But it''s his fabulous understated style of guitar that sells the show - his sound is instantly enjoyable and accessible. It''s only later that you realize, damn he''s good!"

Winnipeg Free Press columnist Conni Oliver says David is "Wickedly talented...As a producer and musician, David Lum is inspiring and professional. His songs touch a chord in people, leaving them wanting more."

Vance Gilbert (recording artist/acclaimed songwriter) at a songwriting workshop noted "David has got a voice as smooth as butter...."

Infusing a blend of folk, pop influences with a touch of bluegrass, his versatile guitar style and songwriting is a result of many years of studio and performance experiences. His previous bands have played at various folk festivals in BC (Mission Folk Festival, Winter Roots Festival, Sunshine Folk Festival), opening for such acclaimed artists as Mae Moore, Stephen Fearing and Wyckham Porteous. As a solo artist, he has performed at the Back Forty Festival (Morden, Manitoba), the Trout Forest Music Festival (Ear Falls, Ontario) and the Winterfolk Roots and Blues Festival (Toronto, Ontario).

His past studio work has included sessions for Calgary''s Danielle French, produced by Geoffrey Kelly (Spirit of the West, The Paperboys), as well as producing his previous bands'' recordings (The Waterpoets, Unknown Soldier, Piglets of Joy). His first cassette, Wanderlust, debuted in 1993 to favorable reviews and in 2000, he produced the debut CD Falling from the Sky for Winnipeg singer/songwriter and Winnipeg Free Press columnist Conni Oliver. In 2004, David won the 2004 MCMA Songwriting Contest Award for his song "Ghost of a Memory". He has also produced CDs for Winnipeg singer/songwriters Marcel Desilets and Scott McPherson, both released in 2004.

David released his debut CD Uncommon Ground in 2001. Now based in Hamilton, ON, he has just released his new CD ``If I Fall`` in March 2011, understated and inspirational songs that will lift your spirits and touch your heart. Whether confessional or topical, David''s music will take you down a road of self-discovery and then carry you back home.
