The Westminster Abbey: To some it may represent a landmark, a place of worship for both gods and kings. To others it represents a magical band that came from the depths of the Fonderlock Forest to show the world what music is supposed to sound like. Listening to their album, Under The Weather, may cause you to make logical comparisons to David Bowie, The Kinks, and umm The Beatles (remember them? Yeah they were good). Well, these guys have a similar sound but enjoy the light-hearted and good-natured fun of their music perhaps more than anyone even knows. Classic instrumentation can be found on the record: kazoos, possible key tars, banjos, tasty guitar riffs.... And a heaping helping of some sweet harmonies make this album a grand ol'' time. The album starts off quite stong with songs taking me back to the 1960s-when i was 20 years away from being conceived. Oh how I remember that familiar sound... There''s only one reason you should compare this band to The Beatles, however, and it''s not the sound. It''s the honest fact that these slick fellas are damn good. Especially when it comes to songwriting, these boys are up there with the best of the best. It''s time for a few favorites on the album: "We Are The Ones" is serene and upbeat, resulting in a put-together, thoughtful, and well-written tune. "Boys and Girls" is a classic sing-a-long track showcasing The Westminster Abbey''s ability to stand alone with an acoustic sound and simple vocal arrangement. By far the standout track on this album is "The World Needs Love," which ranges from a simple acoustic sound all the way to a full-on raucous ballad. While most up-and-coming bands hit the scene with egos bigger than their paychecks and talent smaller than their...uh, never mind, The Westminster Abbey is the first in many years to bring both divine talent and respect to anyone and everyone who wants to hear what they have to say. So that''s it - hope you''re feeling fine. Now grab an umbrella, and go get Under The Weather.
