Celebratory, serious, dark and funny all at the same time! Bike! Bike! is a cd of compositions by Australian Trevor Hart that is is a unique blend of Egyptian, Spanish, Indian, contemporary classical, avant garde and free jazz traditions. Trevor Hart Quartet melds these disparate elements into a coherent and listenable entity. "It is all about having fun with complex music: inventing scales, playing with harmony and rhythm," says Trevor.

The funky title track in 9/4 was inspired by the first steps of a toddler and is emblematic of the joyous music of the Trevor Hart Quartet. Birdo is something approaching an avant garde nursery rhyme yet is composed on the template of the Kerralic 105 pulse cycle.

The Trevor Hart Quartet are: Trevor Hart on trumpet, Toby Wren on guitar, Andrew Shaw on Double bass and drum maestro Grant Collins. They are joined on several tracks by long term collaborator, violin virtuoso John Rodgers on several tracks. The Trevor Hart Quartet has been augmented by a string ensemble on the quasi Egyptian Bayan al Qasrayn, and a choir led by soprano Katie Noonan on Promise (which froms part of the mini suite Fin De Siecle).

Cover and insert art is by ceramicist Shannon Garson. Extra foldout art a woodblock print by renowned painter Joseph Furlonger.

The Trevor Hart Quartet have been lauded by Australian critics for their compositions and live performances. Andrew Mountford observed, "In life, every now & then, something comes along that touches the very heart of things ..... but it''s usually unexpected. Trevor''s compositions use jazz as a language and reference point to create a distinctive type of lyrical free jazz. His compositions are range from large jazz suites to contemporary opera to deconstructed jazz pop of Black Cat Circle. They are often based on complex musical notions that, to the listener appear simple. In these compositions, each musician contributes something of themselves to make a musical idea complete. " I believe that music should be a democratic creative performance experience, " says Trevor.

Amantes and the following cd Bike! Bike! received rave reviews nationally. As well as writing for his various ensembles, Trevor has composed and was the librettist of a contemporary opera On Bloomsday set in Brisbane''s Fortitude Valley night clubs.
