“SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR 2004, 2005 & 2006 R&B FINALIST”

Twila has just been awarded for her excellence in songwriting by “Songwriter of the Year” in the Hip-Hop/R&B category for her newly released, “Why’d You Leave Me?”, an R&B song she wrote in five minutes while in Atlanta, Georgia for her second CD, “Blak & Bluz”. She was contacted by “Songwriter of the Year”, an international songwriting contest sponsored by VH-1, asking to submit a song for their annual international contest. Ironically, she had just finished recording “Why’d You Leave Me?” one week prior, and although the song had not yet been mastered she submitted it anyway, and soon forgot about it. Two months later she received the incredulous news she was in the top five in the Hip-Hop/R&B category world-wide!

“Blak & Bluz” is based mostly on the experiences of Twila’s life and relationships. Unlike her debut CD, “Welcome to the Twila Zone”, a compilation of mainstream music, Twila takes R&B to a new level with “Blak & Bluz”, fusing emotionally intense songwriting with sultry, provocative vocals. “Why’d You Leave Me?” is a song depicting a break-up of the worse kind - having been left for another - and the tremendous humiliation and pain that transpires as a result. Along those same lines is “Can You (See Me Now)”, a haunting ballad about a young girl peering through the bedroom window of her lover finding him with his new love. Twila exudes extraordinary passion in both pieces, fusing a sultry, yet hauntingly vulnerable quality together with an explosive and powerful intensity, inviting her audience in to experience with her the depths of her pain. On the other hand, Twila’s unique rendition of “Thank You for the Love”, an old “Mother’s Finest” tune, reveals her distinctive, sexy, funky-bluesy quality in both her vocals and her music.
