THERE BIOGRAPHY
OVER TEN YEARS OF NON-STOP ROCK

In October 1989 Boston caught it''s first glimpse of the symbol that is THERE, but the mystery of the band behind this image only gradually became revealed. N.E. Performer - "You''ve seen the bilateral symbol every where... An unusual headpiece? An elaborate hood ornament? An ancient Babylonian fertility symbol, perhaps? Look closely enough and you can see all the letters of THERE in it...".

Over the following years rock n'' rollers Vic Dobson, Jake Hamilton, and Andrew Shadrawy experimented with the fusion of sounds which they believed to be the essential ingredients for their rock. Inspired by such artists as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, they melded blues basics, intense grinding metal, dark jazzy psychedelia, and modern creativity, then expressed this mix through a fierce Gibson SG, a raspy Rickenbacker bass, and a thickly melodic, yet coarse and charismatic voice.

In October 1995 the power trio emerged from their sonic metamorphosis as THERE and put out a 5-song self titled demo cassette loaded with super heavy guitar-laden jam-rock-metal, and the group began booking and playing gigs around the Boston area. Having developed a variety of rock not easily labeled they called their new brand of music "Thoroughbred Rock N'' Roll". Shortly thereafter they were dubbed "Bostons best kept secret" by WZBC.

THERE released their self titled debut full length album in August of 1997 on their own label, Say Jim?! Records [Recorded at Cold Room Studio, Engineered by Y. Mike, Mastered by Andrew Murdock]. "...guitar heavy riffs with lots of aural pyrotechnics, heavy cymbal-drum combinations, thick supporting bass and a full melodic voice..." - N.E. Performer Practically a modern hard rock concept album, the listener is taken on an intergalactic journey on an over 70 min. dose of THERE''s first wave of music. Song by song you travel through a range of styles from the rusty hard rock of Sovereign and Games to the funkier grooves of Dominudin. "...a refreshing blast from the past...THERE brings you back to the good old days of rock n'' roll..." - Metronome Topics range from drugs to politics to science fiction. "The songs are stories and are either thirty seconds or up to fourteen minutes long." - Instant The eclectic album received a warm welcome in Boston and some regular rotation on college and commercial radio in the New England area. In turn, THERE expanded their gigs around New England and into New York.

Touring constantly throughout 1998 they even toned things down a bit to play a monthly gig in the Corner at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA. One result of this was the release of their cassette EP Downstairs [Recorded live on the downstairs stage at the Middle East with Andrew Donhieser, Mastered by Andrew Murdock] which showcased a mellower side of the band, including a blues version of Sovereign and a slow funk version of The Great I Am off the first disc. The EP also included the experimental and rarely played number Muenster Chunk and a early version of the sickly-heavy tune Entitled Meat, later altered and renamed Meat. In November 1998 the abrasive, half-crazed single Pete was featured on the Polterchrist Records compilation Benefit For El Chupacabra. Soon THERE began writing their next full length album.

In November 1999 the powerful trio released their second full length album, THERE II, again on their own Say Jim?! Records, in association with Marc Schleicher''s Polterchrist Records [Recorded at New Alliance, Engineered by Andrew Schneider and Marc Schleicher, Mastered by Nick Zampiello]. Press play, and it kicks right into action with the heavy, sex charged rocker All Over For You, and it just doesn''t quit. "The music is extremely tight and highly danceable...", "THERE epitomizes Good Time Rock and Roll." - Instant The album beats with a heart from the past and a pulse from the future in hard rockin songs like Sally Brown and Papa, while adding a modern, melodic vibe in Jimminy Cricket and the intense It''s Coming Again. Not to mention their rock-funk rendition of the classic Muppets number Can You Picture That, which features a glassy Rhodes keyboard to add that authentic touch. The Boston Globe calls the music "...spirited and catchy power chord drenched song(s)...", "THERE has a sound that is extremely fresh, original, and sincere... The music is as challenging as it is familiar." - The Noise "More riff rock than you can shake a dime-bag at..." -N.E. Performer.

The record received regular airplay all over local radio stations including WAAF, WFNX, WBRS, and WBCN, who invited THERE to play the WBCN Rock N'' Roll Rumble in May 2000. Even on CD, THERE II sounds and feels like warm vinyl on your turntable again.

The year 2000 saw THERE playing bigger and hotter shows around Boston as their fan base began to swell. Regular air play and hits from their second album prompted them to go outside the Northeastern United States and spread the Thoroughbred Rock across the nation. In the fall the trio recorded and released the 6 song EP CD Motorchild, again on their own Say Jim?! Records [Recorded and mixed by Craig Riggs (Roadsaw) at his studio. Mastered by Nick Zampiello]. The EP featured embryonic recordings of three brand new songs and live versions of three tracks off of THERE II. The new tunes hinted at the darker hard rock to come, while the live versions of All Over, Sally and Papa reminded everyone how powerful and unstoppable THERE had always been as a live band. The EP quickly became a rarity as It was never distributed . Only one pressing was made and it was used strictly for promotion and for sale at shows on their following tour, then it was gone.

In October of 2000 THERE embarked on their first independently booked and promoted tour throughout the east coast and midwestern U.S. They played 17 shows in 21 days and shook the foundation of the land, showing all who came that real Rock N'' Roll still bled from the heart of Boston. The tour finally took them back home to perform at the third annual "Redneckfest" with such Boston heavies as Scissorfight, Milligram and RC Crimewave.

After a short but much needed rest THERE went back into the studio to finish work on their next full length album THERE III, As always produced by THERE and released on their own Say Jim?! Records [Recorded and mixed by Craig Riggs at his studio, separate tracks recorded and mixed by Andrew Schneider at New Alliance, Mastered by Nick Zampiello]. Released in June of 2001, THERE III was a climax of THEREs sound, crossing their full range of styles and achieving their fullest potential in song writing and arranging. The rock explodes in your face from the intro to Average Man, through the melodic Zeppelin-esq Kiss My Eyes, to the heart-ripping acceleration and adrenaline rush that is Motorchild. "As always THERE is as completely at ease cranking out their riff-roaring sound in the studio as they are on stage" - The New York Times, "... and THERE III showcases that better than anything before." The spooky yet eloquent qualities in Shiverneck are offset by the bombastic crunch-riffs that follow, and their powerhouse version of Deep Purple''s Into The Fire doesn''t even leave you missing the distort-o-Hammond organ from the original. Almost every track off the album became permanent additions to their live shows, and the album itself won the band more respect, admiration and success than ever before.

THERE continued their usual schedule of live performances during the summer of 2001, then took off again on their second independent U.S. tour. They returned home a the end of September to play back-to-back nights at the Coolidge Corner Theater to a warm welcome from their fans. Then, when the success of THERE III finally seemed to be subsiding, for the first time in THEREs history, Motorchild was licensed for the soundtrack to the Lions Gate film "Love Thy Neighbor", and there was much rejoicing. Easily the best band to come out of Boston in the last 20 years, THERE has permanently changed the direction of modern music, reminding everyone of the power wielded by three, and what it is to be entertained by the experience of live rock, performed by those who love it best.

Currently the band is writing and relaxing back home in Boston,
and who knows what the future will bring for THERE.

"...the future''s now, or so they say..."
