Details:
Terrence Brewer — Jazz Guitarist, Composer, Arranger, and Musical Director, resides in Alameda, California. Brewer’s aggressive marketing and business acumen aided him in leading his own instrumental and vocal groups in over 1300 shows throughout California in the last five years. In addition to this impressive feat, Brewer possesses the rich experience of performing with legendary artists such as Pete Escovedo, Herb Gibson, Kim Nalley (production of “Lady Day in Love” by Courtney Brown), Duwaan Muhammad, Calvin Keyes, Bruce Forman, Scott Amendola, Khalil Shaheed, Ed Kelly, Michael Zilber, Tuck and Patti, Chuck Bennet, and many others.

Brewer’s performances range from established weekly gigs at fine restaurants such as Butterfly in SF and Mezze in Oakland to private gigs for the Oakland Children’s Hospital Research Foundation, Mario Chiodo Studios, Pacific Imaging, RadioLogix Inc., PG & E, and many more. Brewer also performs at notable Bay Area jazz venues such as Café Van Kleef, Café Claude, Jupiter, Anna’s Jazz Island, sold out shows at Jazz At Pearl’s with standing ovations at festivals such as the Sonoma Jazz Festival, Fillmore Jazz Festival, Montclair Jazz and Marin Jazz Festivals. In addition, Brewer lends his musical talent to his local communities performing at events such as the City of Alameda’s Earth Day Festival and Run for the Parks, as well as the Oakland Metropolitan, San Leandro Alameda, and Tracy Chamber of Commerce’s annual Installation and Awards Galas.

In addition to his various performances, Brewer’s fate led him to study with some great artists. He studied with Bay Area Pianist and Music Theory Expert Mark Levine and with two of the world’s greatest guitarists, Duck Baker and Charlie Hunter. Along with learning a tremendous amount musically from Hunter and creating a friendship in the process, Hunter encouraged Brewer to continue playing finger-style guitar. Playing in this style, without a pick, Brewer discovered, nurtured, and continues to nurture a greater understanding and more intense connection with the guitar.

As if focusing on his next trio and quartet projects isn’t enough, Brewer keeps busy with practicing, performing, and staying active in the Alameda and San Leandro Chambers of Commerce. Even with Brewer’s breadth of talents, playing guitar remains his passion, “I thoroughly enjoy performing both big and small events either by myself or with the talented and inspiring musicians I perform with. I also love writing to complement the appropriate musical setting, which I believe helps create musical moods compositionally. My journey as a musician is both exciting and challenging; I embarked upon it when I was just a kid and didn’t know what any of it really meant or was going to mean to me as an adult, but every day it brings so much joy to my life”.
