"Dungeon Conquest" is an independently produced video game created as a legacy to a small niche of role-playing boardgames. It emphasizes the rolling dice, turn-based exploration, and story-driven narrative pioneered in table-top games but combines them with a more complex yet faster-paced tactical combat system manageable by an electronic game. The graphics are intended to be simple and easy to take in, and this creates an excellent opportunity for the music, rather than the visuals, to engage the player. Similar to many of the best-loved role-playing video games created before the advent of 3D graphics, this soundtrack is written to be much more than just something to listen to in the background while playing. Each song is designed to draw the player''s imagination toward an impression critical to the corresponding portion of the game. For example, the initially delicate but inevitably enveloping melody of "Through Cold and Dark" is inspired by the crisp, frozen halls of an abandoned mountaintop stronghold, while the more energetic and adverse "Trial By Fire" derives from the blistering heat of a cavern twisting its way through an active volcano -- both locations within the game. However, not every song is dictated by a physical environment: "Searching" emphasizes the quietly rising tension of the protagonists as they creep through trap-infested ruins, while "Monster" exhibits their frantic horror at being attacked by a seemingly insurmountable foe. This album represents the hope that you, the listener, can hear the dreams and emotions incorporated into this carefully crafted music (and perhaps even find some of your own), even should the game that inspired it never be perfected or published.
