Details:
I miss country music. Remember that stuff? Yeah. Growing up in the family I did, it
was hard to escape it, but it was also hard to not take it for granted. Of course there
were my parents and their own music, but there were also their friends, many of
whom were immensely talented folks, whether or not they were household names
or heavy hitters.

One of my earliest childhood memories is of Waylon walking into our little farm house near Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee. He smiled at me, reached down and ruffled my hair. Waylon seemed like a giant to me. I miss ol'' hoss.

I remember being at my dad’s recording sessions for “Renegade Picker”. I remember answering the phone when Townes Van Zandt would call the house. He’d always chat with me a minute before asking to speak with ol’ Steve. Legendary people and events were all around me.

I spent my 20s trying to step out of the shadow my dad cast, playing rock music and
running from my roots. But since then I have grown comfortable with, and proud of, the legacy. And I have come to appreciate just how good the music really was back then. Especially in contrast to the mindless, soulless, pop that Nashville cranks out today.

So, I made this album. Mostly for myself. It was just the sort of collection of songs I
wanted to hear. I hope anyone else who feels the way I do about the current state of country music will also enjoy it. It''s an homage to my “Outlaw” heroes, the biggest among them being my dad. This movement was more than an image back then. It was more than a wardrobe or a marketing campaign. They were pushing back against the Nashville machine, looking for some freedom to express themselves. It was a revolution.

And it''s about time for another one.
