John Fancher was born onto the back floorboard of a speeding Dodge Charger sometime before the turn of the Century. His mother named him after his grandfather, John Thomas McGee, a southern Illinois dirt farmer who played 13-string banjo in a bluegrass band who did all Sun Ra covers. John fashioned his fist guitar out of the bottom of a Tinker Toys tub and some frayed Buick fan belts he found laying around his great uncle''s garage. When he was 5, John killed a rabid skunk with this very guitar, saving his family from certain stink.
Details of John''s early adult life have been lost in a haze of hair mousse and plaid, but in the late 90s he resurfaced and toiled in such odd jobs as ankle model, retractable pen inspector and IRS auditor: children''s division.
Eventually, he had enough and returned home to the big welcoming shoulders of Chicago, to pen Americana music from his heart and play it with a cracker jack band of great friends he calls, with enormous affection, "The Beloveds". John is a suspicious singer and an inevitable guitar player, but as long as he stays upright his band will split beams and bring down the house around you. Come sweet spirit.
