Pop music doesn''t need fancy bells and whistles for it to succeed - it merely takes good songwriting. on their debut, "Divorcing The Shame", this band from Columbus, Ohio, delivers down-to-earth, danceable power pop that unfailingly makes you feel a sense of well being. Lead vocalist/songwriter Chuck Oney sings with a gut-level passion that will remind you of Cockeyed Ghost''s Adam Marsland. Songs like "Dandy","She Don''t Feel...", "Eggshells", "Punched and Pleased" and "Hang Up" are the kind of tunes you''ll find yourself humming incessantly, and The Motors inspired "3 Monkees" absolutely would have been a hit in the more power pop friendly environs of ''70s radio. "I Wish I Was Like You" and "Helluva Guy" may sound like they are of similar sentiment, but in fact they are the yin and yang of the album. Both are soft and sad sounding, but only one being particularly complimentary. Which one? You''ll have to buy the album to find out, but it will be worth every dollar you spend.
