Después de conocer al héroe nacional, Rafael Cancel Miranda, me di a la tarea de presentar la obra literaria de Cancel a un público más amplio que el que acostumbraba reunirse para escuchar al maestro. Escogà once poesÃas suyas de su libro titulado "Mis dioses llevan tu nombre" y las convertà en canciones. El sabor de la música es una mezcla del jazz de Memphis y la música boricua que escuché durante los últimos veintitrés años de mi vida. Lo más importante del disco, para mÃ, son los mensajes de Cancel Miranda para su pueblo. Conozcan al héroe nacional por medio de este CD.

Here is the record of which I dreamed for several years. After having met the Puerto Rican national hero, Rafael Cancel Miranda, I took it upon myself to present some of his literary works to a wider audience than the one that usually listens to the “maestro.†I chose eleven poems from his book “Mis dioses llevan tu nombre†(My Gods Carry Your Name) and transformed them into songs. The flavor of the music is a mixture of Memphis jazz and the Puerto Rican music that I have been listening to for the last twenty-three years of my life. I called upon my good friend, Dr. Bill Hurd, to add his soulful saxophone playing on most of the tracks. Jenny Santiago and I are the vocalists and I play all of the other musical instruments on the CD. A special treat is the voice of Cancel reciting several of his poems. For me the most important thing on the CD is the mass of spiritual, patriotic, and social messages that have come from deep down within the soul of Rafael Cancel Miranda. Meet our national hero by means of this CD.
