Details:
"Both artists bring extensive knowledge of the baroque era to this artistic creation, and the duo plays as if they are one. Rempel''s seemingly effortless technique enables her to float through virtuosic passages with ease, and Letkemann''s steady and sure accompanying guarantees enjoyment for the listener. The phrases are well constructed, both in terms of stylistic gestures, such as ornaments, as well as with regard to the artists'' interpretation of the composers'' rhetoric. Both have taken care in asserting that each note is integrated into the grand scheme of the composition." - Rhubarb Magazine

Praised for her warm tone and expressive playing, Canadian flutist Haley Rempel is gaining reputation for her sophisticated interpretations as well as her unique ability to capture audiences.

In 2007, Haley graduated from Yale University with a Master of Music degree in flute performance. During her time at Yale she had the opportunity to study under the esteemed American flutist Ransom Wilson, an experience that formed the basis for her approach to the flute. She has also had the privilege of studying with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra’s principal flutist Timothy Hutchins while she was an undergraduate student at Montreal’s McGill University.

Haley has been a freelance flutist in southern California, Connecticut, Montreal and Winnipeg. In 2009, she completed her first concert tour of Germany, France and Canada with organist Peter Letkemann and also performed in a debut recital with renowned harpsichordist Eric Lussier. While studying at Yale, she performed twice in Carnegie Hall with the Yale Philharmonic Orchestra. In the past year, Haley has made debut with the Musick Barock series and at the Agassiz Chamber Music Festival, appearing in recital with both Mr. Lussier and pianist Max Fleischman.

Miss Rempel is a dedicated performer of baroque music and is equally at home with contemporary works, being given the opportunity to premiere a number of works in Canada and the USA.

In addition to her principle teachers, Haley has actively sought out chances to study with a number of the world’s foremost flutists in private lessons and masterclasses, including Dr. Dieter Flury, Jean-Claude Gérard, Sandra Miller, Maxence Larrieu, Jeanne Baxtresser, Tara-Helen O’Connor, Susan Hoeppner, Dr. Kathleen Rudolph, Carolyn Christie and Leone Buyse.

Miss Rempel has been the recipient of several awards including the Gold Medal for Flute Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, the Governor General’s Award at the Winnipeg Music Competition Festival and scholarships to attend both Yale and McGill Universities.

Miss Rempel has held teaching positions at Platt College (San Diego), the Orange County High School of the Arts (California), the University of Winnipeg and as undergraduate flute instructor at Yale University. Haley recently did her first project with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, working on the commercials for ‘Wonderland’, which will air in January 2011.

Organist Peter Letkemann received his musical training at the University of Manitoba, the Westfalische Landeskirchenmusikschulei in Herford, Germany, and at the University of Toronto (Ph.D, Musicology). His organ teachers have included Dan Smith and Conrad Grimes in Winnipeg, Arno Schonstedt in Herford, Anton Heiller and Maire-Claire Alain in Haarlem, Holland. Peter has served as organist/choirmaster since the age of fifteen in a variety of congregations in Canada, USA and Germany; he has also taught music at the Canadian Mennonite Bible College (Winnipeg), the University of Manitoba, Conrad Grebel College (Waterloo) and Mennonite Biblical Seminary (Elkhart). Peter now leads a varied life as performer, writer, and businessman in Winnipeg.
