La valenciana Eugenia Sancho publica ‘Noches de feeling’, grabado por el productor Julio Montalvo con músicos de la talla de Greg Hopkins o Iván ‘Melón’ Lewis
“Cuando el filin te atrapa, ya no te suelta nunca”, asegura la vocalista valenciana Eugenia Sancho. Sabe de lo que habla: inició su carrera profesional en la música, hace ya más de una década, como intérprete de tango y folk, pero, con el cambio de siglo, dio el salto al son cubano y el jazz latino, de la mano del músico y productor cubano Julio Montalvo (nominado en los premios Cubadisco en 2010). Fue en 2004, sin embargo, cuando descubrió el filin e, inmediatamente, cayó rendida a los pies de este género, que despegó a finales de los 40 en la isla de Cuba., gracias a compositores como César Portillo de la Luz y José Antonio Méndez, e intérpretes legendarias de la talla de Omara Portuondo y Elena Burke. Su peculiar romance con esta música llevó a Eugenia Sancho a montar el espectáculo en directo A corazón abierto y a dedicarle, ahora, su primer trabajo discográfico: Noches de feeling. Homenaje al filin cubano.
“Llevo un montón de años dedicándome a la música, pero fue al profundizar en el filin cuando por primera vez sentí la necesidad de entrar en un estudio de grabación”, explica la cantante. Hay motivos de sobra que justifican su pasión por esta música apasionada y sensual: “Por un lado, tiene que ver con mi sangre latina, pero también por esa mezcla de jazz y bolero propia del filin, que me fascina. Pero hay algo más, que enlaza con mi otra faceta artística, la de actriz: el filin es una música que te permite jugar con la interpretación, exige que seas una artista completa sobre el escenario, cantando y, a la vez, interpretando”, asegura. Uno de sus principales modelos es la venerada artista cubana Elena Burke, de quien Eugenia Sancho dice: “Ha hecho que esta música me apasione aún más”.
Para Noches de feeling, la vocalista valenciana ha escogido un repertorio firmado por algunos de los más respetados autores del género, caso de Marta Valdés (No te empeñes más, Aida o Deja que siga sola), J.A.Méndez (Si me comprendieras) o Piloto y Vera (Debí Llorar). La grabación del álbum tuvo lugar en el estudio de la SGAE en Valencia y corrió a cargo del productor y trombonista cubano Julio Montalvo. Se contó, además, con la colaboración de grandes instrumentistas, como el trompetista norteamericano Greg Hopkins (Buddy Rich Orchestra o Lonnie Smith), el percusionista matancero (Cuba) Yoel Páez ( Isaac Delgado, Soledad Jimenez, Café Quijano), el contrabajista cubano Reinier Elizarde ‘El Negrón’ o el también cubano Iván ‘Melón’ Lewis (pianista de Concha Buika), entre otros. “Son todos músicos excelentes y el resultado a la vista está. Estoy convencida de que este disco podría llegar perfectamente a los aficionados al filin y el bolero, pero también del jazz o, simplemente, a los amantes de la música de calidad”, concluye la cantante valenciana.
