Details:
Michael Rule strides into the Canadian country music scene with the release of his debut album Just Me Talking, His first single ‘How Do I Get You Back’ and first video for second single ‘For Loving
You’, to be released January 2011.

Rule has been spending a lot of time in Nashville at the legendary Studio 19 lately. Since it
opened under the name of Music City Recorders in the early 1960''s, this hallowed space is where
artists such as Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson began their recording careers. Ringo Starr also
recorded his "Beaucoup of Blues" album there. Others like Dolly Parton, Allison Krauss and
John Wayne are among many various artists that have recorded projects there throughout the
years.

Rule has also been collaborating with a string of Nashville musicians, songwriters and legendary
record producer and mentor, Larry Rogers. Rogers has produced such artists as Ricky Nelson,
Mel McDaniel, Charly McClain, and Billy Swan.
Three days after Michael was born he was diagnosed with a dysfunctional heart, which led to
eight major operations including open heart surgery. The doctors did not expect him to
live through his childhood. He says, “I’ve got more scars than Rambo so I really fooled
them.”

He’s also lived with epilepsy and literally died on the emergency room table in his
teens. Doctors and his mother were very protective and all too often Michael heard the
phrase ‘you can’t’. Whether it was ‘you can’t run across the playground’, or ‘you can’t play
baseball’. But he did it all anyway...and still does.
Michael explains, “Everybody assumes that artists like Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson and
Waylon Jennings are my inspiration. I listened to them growing up and love their music, but
it was my dad that always was and still is my inspiration. I went through so much in the
hospital and he always encouraged me to keep going and to do all of the things that so many
people warned me not to do. He always said ‘you can do anything you want to do.’ And
that’s the message that I want to pass on now.”

Raised in a small community, Michael Rule grew up surrounded by family, friends and
hard-working neighbours. He was born and raised in Honeywood, Ontario
It was in the village of Honeywood that Michael spent much time in the
family general store where his grandfather was a butcher, as was his father.
“I spent a lot of time in both the hospital and in the general store but music was always a big
part of my childhood. Dad turned me on to music. He would sing and play the guitar so
that’s where I got my love of music.”

Later, adventure came calling and Rule answered. As a young man he went to Texas
University to become a firefighter, graduating from the air rescue program. Soon he took
up work as a fireman in Bermuda for a few years. Next he moved to Yellowknife, becoming a
third generation butcher. Yet nothing was strong enough to keep Michael Rule from
returning to his roots. Not even a tornado.

In 2007 Rule set out on the long road home from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories to
Grey County, Ontario. He pulled everything he owned in a trailer behind his car. Michael
was nearly home when a twister destroyed his vehicle, possessions and sliced off the tip of his
finger . The only thing that survived the storm was his guitar. Music had never left Rule’s
heart and this was a sign he couldn’t ignore. So Michael began his career in music.

George Canyon once advised, “just keep going, it’s going to take time but it will happen”.
And Michael Rule won’t stop until it does.

Michael’s mission is twofold: to sing music straight from his heart and to inspire people to
follow their dreams regardless of obstacles and setbacks. His philosophy:
“If I can give even one person, especially a child, the hope that someday they will get through
whatever their current challenge is and that they can reach for the stars just like I am right now,
then I have accomplished my goal’” Michael Rule
