Love-N-Pain is more than just a unique name. It’s more than empty words, but words which hold much substance. A Baton Rouge, Louisiana native, Ivan L. Toldson in his former life (B.C.) was a young man who dedicated his life to the streets. So much ability he possessed, but drowned in drug usage, crime life, and a deep rooted mentality in which most young men are captive to today. Contrary to his lifestyle, Ivan was brought up in a good environment with both parents present. He was taught according to what was right, but chose to go with the flow of the culture. Ivan stated that, “In my song I wrote entitled Peace of Mind, I expressed this irresistible flow: Just adapting to the culture that tailored my desires, defined by my swag and the chrome on the tires”. Ivan expressed that “some people adapt to whatever suits their desires and I desired to be a thug. So inevitably, I was drawn into the hip-hop culture, which in and of itself was not wicked, but the ways of living where sure to lead me to an early grave.” Being motivated by legal circumstances, Ivan was admitted into a local drug rehabilitation center, where his life would began to change. After completion of a 45 day program, God began to send people in Ivan’s path that would lead him to Christ, and walk with him throughout this journey. “I never knew that God could come into my life and change me the way he has”, stated Ivan. “Like many people, I grew up in church, but never knew what it was to have an intimate relationship with this God they talked about”. Today, Ivan’s life is much different compared to his former lifestyle. He now works in the field of rehabilitation giving back to what once and continues to help him. He still considers himself to be part of the Hip-Hop culture, but today chooses to separate himself in conduct and purpose. Though possessing many God given talents, Ivan’s passion is to spread this message of Christ through his amazing musical abilities. In conclusion, Ivan expressed, “I just want to be all that God wants me to be, and to make myself available for the Glory of God”.
