Making Absolutely Brilliant
The creation of this album of sixteen tracks of electronica is the product of a father and son collaboration. L8knight@theDoktors created Absolutely Brilliant using the GarageBand program found on most Mac computers. Jam Packs available for GarageBand enhanced the loop library, in addition to importing sounds from outside sources. The work on electronica compositions began in 2007 when L@D created its first album, Protogenesis. Two tracks, “Blues #1” (Track 14) and “Assume the Position” (Track 15), from that album are included on Absolutely Brilliant as Bonus Tracks.
The name of the band, L8knight@theDoctors (Late Night at the Doctor’s) came from the late night work after the son’s day gig as a senior computer engineer. The father, a Doctor of Musical Arts, had retired after a career as a college music instructor. Work started on this album in November 2008, with the birth of Katie, the son’s first child (“Welcome Kaitlin,” track 6).
L@D has created sixteen separate pieces illustrating a wide variety of electronica techniques and approaches to the genre, encompassing over an hour of music—including two minutes of silence.
