With lifelong passions for music, it was no accident that the members of For Instance came together as a band. In mid-2008, Austin, Joseph, and Reid began playing covers of some of their favorite tunes. After a year, they began developing their own sound. When Matthew joined For Instance, they began really forming a unique indie ambient-experimental style that has appealed to fans of all kinds in the Southeast.
And it is no surprise that the music of For Instance appeals to diverse groups. From the energetic to the experimental, the band has carved out a space next to Switchfoot, Anberlin, Death Cab for Cutie, and Paper Route. The band’s willingness to adapt itself to a crowd has gathered a loyal following that is propelling the band beyond its initial influences.
From small-town scenes to slam-packed venues with over 5,000 people in attendance, For Instance has kept audiences on their feet with over fifty original songs. Their passion for performance is matched only by their desire to write quality music. They each have a unique method but have maintained collaborative checks on each other from the very beginning. They truly believe music is an evolving industry and strive to be on the cutting edge from development to performance.
But music alone is not enough it seems. For Instance has done considerable work with the SKIN DEEP Movement, an educational program designed to combat eating disorders, To Write Love on Her Arms, a suicide prevention initiative, and various disaster relief organizations to further promote the health and wellbeing of those in need.
