Southern Cross : The story
It was long before the long hairs and the Y2K bug in a computer class of the Laval University that Dave and Jeff, students with rockstar hearts, were about to unite to avoid contamination from their fellow computer nerds. Their friendship and the love they both shared for music rapidly lead them to form a band. The main concept: a tribute to the Finnish band Stratovarius. It was time to look for a drummer, at this time the duo noticed an ad from Fred, who had decided it was time for him to leave his basement and meet people, for some unknown reason. From this point, the name Southern Cross was chosen in reference to a song from the band they were going to pay tribute to.
After a year of practicing as a trio, Southern Cross decided to add to their line-up and started to hunt for new musicians in order to find a keyboard player and second guitar player. It will take two years and numerous hours of rehearsal in their new studio. It took three guitar players, four keyboard players, two hundred stupidities and thousands of beers (many spilled on the floor!) before the trio finally found the precious missing pearls to complete the line-up. In 2002, Oli meets with the guys and a few months later the arrival of J-B concludes the long and exhausting search for fellow musicians.
From then on, the band gave more than twenty shows in various cities in the province of https://www.tradebit.com were rewarded with the “audience prize” at the 2003 Conga. 2005 has been a turning point for the band who recorded their first studio album, but also played as opening act for two major European names: Edguy and Sonata Arctica. 2006 will be a very busy year for them as they plan to hit the road across Quebec for more than twenty dates.
The ambitions
The release and the marketing of the first album on a national scale in association with a label is without a doubt the first step to realize the professional ambitions of the band. In addition, a long tour will be scheduled to promote the ‘Rise Above’ album as well as the professional success of the band.
Writing and pre-production for the second album will begin in order to map Southern Cross on the European and Japanese markets. The band members are ready for anything in order to accomplish their ambitions. Moving overseas might also be considered in order to get closer to the aimed markets.
The aspirations of Southern Cross are over any gradable success. Every album, show, song and guitar riff will be another step towards their first goal: innovation. The band seeks to always go further and push their audacity and their desire to impress and make people talk. But why stop there, why don’t they get the occasion to charm several groupies and show the world what it’s like to party with Southern Cross!?!
