Details:
"Embers" is the debut album from singer/songwriter Sarah Kim Wilde. Sarah Kim recorded these twelve songs in Los Angeles, over the period of a week in late 1996. At the time, she was working in Hollywood as an actress. She had landed supporting roles on television shows such as Matlock, The Young and the Restless, and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. (On stage, Sarah Kim coyly amuses the audience by revealing how the "other" job she held during those years led her to write the song "Waitress"). Although she''d tasted Hollywood success, she wasn''t sure it was what she really wanted.

In the meantime, Sarah Kim''s husband, Steve Wilde, who is also an actor and singer/songwriter, was accepted into an exclusive songwriting workshop taught by the legendary Hollywood music producer, Nik Venet. Something came up, however, that prevented Steve from attending the whole workshop, and Steve asked Nik if Sarah Kim could attend in his place.

On Sarah Kim''s first day in class, Nik asked her to write a line from a phrase - Hollywood sunset. He was so impressed by what she came up with that he asked her to write a verse, and then a whole song. It went on like this for several weeks until Sarah Kim had written the songs that comprise the CD "Embers."

Nik was so taken with Sarah Kim and her music that he asked her to become a regular performer in his prestigious Campfire Conspiracy concert series at Genghis Cohen in Los Angeles. Sarah Kim learned a great deal from Nik. He helped her find her voice as a songwriter, and gave her the confidence and encouragement to dig into her deepest emotions and mine out the gems.

Sadly, Mr. Venet succumbed to cancer in 1997, leaving behind a legacy including his discovery of the Beach Boys, Bobby Darin, Don McLean, Linda Ronstadt, and Jim Croce. As one of his last projects, he produced Sarah Kim''s CD "Embers."
The cast of musicians on "Embers" reads like a Who''s Who of LA session players. Their résumés span the spectrum of American popular music. On guitar - Tim May (The Carpenters, Cher, Whitney Houston, Olivia Newton-John, Lionel Ritchie) Craig Stull (Celine Dion, Shawn Colvin, Carole King, Vince Gill, Randy Travis) and Dean Parks (Chet Atkins, Larry Carlton, Lyle Lovett, Linda Ronstadt, Paul Simon); on bass - Jim Hughart (Ella Fitzgerald, Bette Midler, Joni Mitchell, The Monkees, Tom Waits) and Chuck Berghofer (Herb Alpert, Steely Dan, Barry Manilow, Henry Mancini, Frank Zappa).

These seasoned first-call professionals surround Sarah Kim''s honeyed vocals and delicate fingerpicking with tasteful and subtle support, always in service to the song. Sarah Kim''s songwriting is precise, intelligent and efficient - there are no wasted words here. Her melodies soar and dive across the peaks and valleys of each tune, filling the speakers (or headphones) with elegant splendor. Nik Venet''s production is organic and unobtrusive, allowing the strength of Kim''s songwriting and voice to carry each arrangement.

Since the release of "Embers" in 1997, Sarah Kim and Steve have left LA, and moved back to North Carolina to raise their two boys. After devoting all her time to parenting for the past eight years, Sarah Kim is starting to perform live again, and is writing songs for her much-anticipated follow-up to "Embers." While her children are young, she''ll stay close to her Asheville home, balancing her performing schedule with the family from which she draws her strength.
