Stacy''s Story
By Bonnie Church

An unknown poet once lamented, "Most of us go to our grave with our music still inside of us." Not so Stacy Whited. She has been captivating audiences with her music since age two and has no intention of stopping any time soon.

Not only does Stacy Whited have "Voice", she has many other gifts...
- She has beauty.
- She has stage presence.
- She has a passion for doing what she was born to do. And she was born to sing country music.

Stacy''s singing career started young. At an age when most children are barely talking in complete sentences, Stacy was singing and dancing. "Out in the backyard of my childhood home in Hutchinson, Kansas, I would line my stuffed animals and dolls up and sing for them through a Mickey Mouse microphone." The petite blonde with the powerful voice became well known around, "Hutch". She sang at area churches. She sang at home. She sang at school. By age nine, she knew this was her chosen profession.

Stacy''s parents, Ernie and Jeanette Heikes, wisely supported her gift. They provided training with some of Kansas'' best vocal coaches. The high school she attended, which offered one of the nation''s best music programs, provided the stage.

Stacy''s voice matured into a strong clear soprano with a unique and soulful sound of her own. The local buzz about the young singer increased. Offers to showcase her talent on an amateur, as well as professional level abounded. Upon graduating from high school she received a vocal scholarship. She traveled nationally with the "The Headliners" her college show choir and performed professionally at the Crown Uptown Dinner Theatre of Wichita, Kansas.

At 19 years old, Stacy''s voice, stage presence and beauty earned her the title of Miss Hutchinson in the Kansas State Miss America Pageant.

David Whited, a high school friend, was also in the pageants'' audience. He too liked what he saw. David and Stacy found each other and within a year, Stacy was a wife and mother. Barely out of adolescence, the young couple was faced with the adult challenge of supporting a family.

Stacy chose to postpone her singing career so that she could help make ends meet, while David prepared for fulltime ministry at The Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs. Stacy continued to find expression for her talent through performances at New Life Church and performed on a CD produced by the music ministry.

The complications of a second pregnancy left Stacy bedridden and unable to work. The challenge of providing for this growing family now fell solely on David''s shoulders. He had to put his ministry plans on hold. "David began taking on part time jobs, but part time jobs don''t pay well. So even when working a one hundred hours per week schedule he had to donate plasma to pay for my prescriptions."

Circumstances that might defeat some, caused this young couple to rise up. "The biggest lesson we learned is how vulnerable we were by trading time for money and working for an hourly wage. We knew we had to find a situation where we determined our pay and not someone else."

At the ripe old age of 23, David and Stacy opened a home-based product brokerage company through Market America, Inc. "We had 2 major obstacles to overcome. We lacked business experience and we were broke." So broke in fact that they had to pawn their TV set in order to raise the money to get the training they needed. But what they lacked in experience and capital, they made up for in determination. "This was going to work, because we were going to make it work!"

That determination paid off. Within 2 years they were earning an annual, on-going six-figure income. Recognized as rising stars in the direct selling industry, Stacy and David were chosen to conduct motivational and educational seminars for Market America, Inc. "It is great! We now have an on-going income, the time to enjoy it, and the opportunity to share with thousands across the nation on how they can do the same."

So much of life already lived, yet barely out of her twenties, Stacy is now ready to pick up where she left off. She is ready to captivate audiences with her voice again. "Sometimes we have to postpone our dreams, but we don''t have to give them up. I am now ready to pursue my childhood dream again." The best part, for Stacy, is that husband, David, son, Colton [10] and daughter Averee [7] are teaming up with her in the pursuit.

Stacy''s resume of accomplishments grew considerably this past year. She earned the title of Mrs. Sedgwick County in the Kansas Mrs. America Pageant, was chosen among 5 finalists in the Loretta Lynn Annual Talent search, and began production on her soon to be released CD.

Careful thought is going into each song on Stacy''s new CD. "I not only want to perform and entertain. I want to use music as a vehicle to make people stop and think. David and I are sifting carefully through hundreds of songs to find the ones that have a great message, supported by soul stirring music."

Most of the album is solo, but there will be a guest appearance by Dennis Franks. "Dennis is a real Renaissance man. He is a gifted athlete. He was an all American at the University of Michigan and played for the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 15. He is a gifted entrepreneur and Vice President of Market America, Inc, as well as a talented and energetic musician."

The Whiteds'' have moved to their new Nashville home and are settling in. They look forward to hitting the road to promote their CD. David, an award winning poet, will not only be helping manage Stacy''s career, he will be doing some song writing as well. "David and I have been a great team. We can tackle projects together, not say a word, and know exactly what the other is thinking."

Colton and Averee will not be left in the dust of their parent''s promotional tour. They will be on the road with their parents and have the "best seats in the house" to watch this dream become reality. "Far too many people give up their dreams when they have children. We have chosen to reach for our dreams so our children will know what is possible."
