Details:
"It took so long to reach that ''under-the-radar'' status, that we didn''t think people would notice that our blip was no longer bleeping." Or such was the excuse that they gave for having waiting so long to put out fijilijim, the Subcons'' follow-up EP to the ambitious, debut concept album Time Has Come.

"We began recording fijilijim right after moving to the beach in 2002 but it got put on hold as new directions and sounds were being taken and made. We really never wanted to wait this long, but here it is," resigns Richard Bruno, one-half or one-third of the dream-collective the Subcons. In fact almost 4 years in the making, the fijilijim EP is bustling with what seems to be third- or fourth-tier revisions of songs you might have heard had you been dreaming of beaches at about the same time.

"It''s funny how people posit a collective unconscious--like how people in controlled experiments do better on yesterday''s newspaper''s crossword puzzle as if tapping into some sort of underlying metaphysical pool of human knowledge. In a similar respect, I''d like to think dreams can be shared, and that that unexplicable connection that we feel with certain pieces of art may be an intangible form of deja reve." Riiight Richard, and who knows, maybe we all helped contribute to the songs of the Subcons'' fijiljim--so where''s our royalty checks?

In all fairness to the actual end product, this set of songs, released solely in digital format and accompanied by a webalbum complete with conceptual animations and duty-free mesmerizations is bound to ring an ounce of truth somewhere with just about anybody. Upon watching the constellations align and alight and play out the story behind the songs, one wonders why more bands are not attempting more courageous efforts. But maybe it''s just because these cats are materializing now what other artists are still dreaming about. Let''s just hope for our sake they quicken the pace a bit.
