Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter Charles Ramsey has recently released his brand new Christmas song, “Cashing in on Christmastime.” The song was recorded in November, 2010 at Racetrack Studios in South Philadelphia and features Ramsey on piano, guitar, and vocals, along with Vince Federici on guitar, Dan Manchester on upright bass, and Lance Davis on drums. The recording was produced by Ramsey and Lance Davis (of RokBox Productions) and engineered by Shane Moore.
“Cashing in on Christmastime” is an upbeat and humorous account of a songwriter’s attempt to profit off the popularity of Christmas music. Set to a driving Johnny Cash-style beat, the song concludes with a spirited chorus of “have a very merry Christmas baby.” It was recorded in between sessions for Ramsey’s soon-to-be-released EP. The EP, which is also being produced and engineered by Lance Davis at RokBox Productions, will feature five new songs and is due to be released in early-2011.
Ramsey has two previous full-length albums to his name. His most recent album, Good Morning & Good Night was released last year to international acclaim. It ranked in the top 50 of Absolute Powerpop’s “Top 100 Albums of 2009”, and was described as “one of the best releases of 2009” by the Brazil-based music blog Paralelo Pop. In October, 2010, the album was featured on Ian Rothwell’s weekly Salford City Radio program, broadcast in Salford, England.
Since the 2005 release of his first album, Something New, Ramsey has been performing regularly in Philadelphia and New York. He has been featured four times at Jezebel Music’s “Resonance” songwriter showcase, a Brooklyn-based event that has played host to some of New York’s top singer/songwriters. In March of 2009, https://www.tradebit.com described Ramsey as “one of the finest songsters to perform at Resonance to date.”
