Details:
This music is based on a book published in London by John Sheeles around 1725. The interpretation is dedicated to Grant Colburn, one of the founders of Vox Saeculorum and well-known for his keyboard composition in the style of Handel''s English Contemporaries.

John Sheeles (1688-1761), was one of the original subscribers to the Royal Society of Musicians on 28 August 1739. He was an harpsichordist and composer at the "Little Theatre" (the Haymarket), according to The Royal Society of Musicians (1985). The Catalogue of Printed Music at the British Museum lists a few of Sheeles''s songs, published between 1720 and 1730 or later. He was active in the Royal Society until at least 1755.

Sheeles made a huge contribution to Watt''s Musical Miscellany and The Skylark, with hymns, songs and sacred odes settled by his friends William Stukeley, Christopher Smart and others. Also, he was the author of two books of Suites of lessons for the harpsichord (1725 and c.1730). New kinds of formal dances occur in the second book. Regarding the first book of 1725 (recorded here), its contents are grouped by key, but are of a miscellaneous nature and we can think at it as a sequence of seven lessons.

For the current recording, the harpsichordist has introduced a number of "ad libitum" preludios in front of each Lesson. Also, there are short codas added using his fine taste and, especially, the ''Ground'' (track 24) has been extended with 10 additional variations in c minor key.
