Details:
Time travelers, coffee-addicts, murder committing semanticists, romantic ghosts, and a heartbroken squids are just some of the strange characters that populate this fun, and at times touching, collection of songs.

The music of the album is mostly acoustic guitar, bass and drums driven, but consistently strays from this arrangement and there are gospel choirs, string quartets, a cappella songs and ukulele solos. For all the cleverness and depth of its arrangements, The Man Who Broke His Own Heart is a simple, elegant collection of tunes.

The album features guest performances from Rob McComb (The Triffids), Garrett Costigan (Tex, Don & Charlie, Stephen Cummings)

James Hazelden has toured Australia, North America and Europe with a variety of bands for the last decade. He has performed with The Triffids at the ARIA Hall of Fame Awards and their subsequent show at the Melbourne Concert Hall, toured Queensland with Circus Oz, toured Canada with folk musician Chloe Hall, and the UK supporting comedian Tony Law. Recently he premiered his debut troubadour-style solo show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The show was a great success and James was called:

“**** - entertaining, hilarious, and charismatic … the lyrics were absurd, accompanied by frantic guitar strumming, and an incongruously harmonious voice... jagged charm” – Three Weeks (UK)

“The Bob Dylan of comedy music… antipodean magic… genius” – The List (UK)

endearing and harmonious… lunatic lyrics and melodic absurdity… more talent than many chart toppers” – The Scotsman (UK)

James also writes and performs with Melbourne fun-rock band, Man Bites God. He plays guitar, piano, cello, accordion, keyboards and sings. He has toured nationally and internationally, and has performed with Circus Oz, Deborah Conway, The Triffids, The Scared Weird Little Guys, The Drowning Hitlers, Chloe Hall, The Ang Fang Quartet, Tim Minchin, The Australian Youth Orchestra, Khamal and Rolf Harris to name a few.
