Details:
Mike Lennon''s Psycho C&W/Psycho Ranchero were recorded from 1991-1993 in New York City and Ajo , Arizona . Psycho C&W was recorded just before Mike''s departure from New York City these are the last recordings of the Psychobillies era . In Jan . ''92 The Psychobillys played their last show in New Jersey with the final line up of Mike Lennon , Gene Tambor Jill Wycoff and Vince Hancock . The C&W Psychobillys played the New York New Jersey and Long Island country circuit and Psycho C&W is comprised of originals the band played on stage at that time . The Psychobillys were over when the sessions began so Mike Lennon plays all instruments himself and the songs were recorded on a tascam 4trackcassette recorder and engineered by Shane Hue in NYC . In Sept. 1992 Mike moved to Ajo Arizona and wrote and recorded prolifically in 1992-93 . Psycho Ranchero has a Tex-Mex flavor that Mike picked up soon after his arrival . Both albums were released in a very limited run of 50 cassettes with one abum on each side and sold at Gas Stations in Ajo , Why and Gila Bend Arizona . Now Remastered by Don Wilke at Wild Whirrled studios in Phoenix , Arizona these albums make their world wide digital debut!

Interview with Mike Lennon : How did you come to live in Ajo , Arizona? My deceased first wife''s family owns the Copper Sands Motel in Ajo so we managed that and I played at solo at the Hut and in the motel for about two years . Why Did you leave N.Y. ? I was living at 186 Norfolk Street on the lower east side of Manhatten and Playing on Bleeker street and doing weekends out on Long Island and New Jersey with the C&W Psychobillys it got very tiring driving to L.I. or Jersey with all the traffic plus the Psychobillys recorded some demos for Sun Records , nothg came of it and the idea of moving to the desert appealed to me . Lets talk about how you recorded these two albums you played all the instruments yourself didn''t you ? Yes well my friend Shane Hue had a 4track tascam recorder , The C&W Psychobillys had broken up and I had written this album so I recorded Psycho C&W starting with Rythm guitar and added everything else some of the tracks were finished in Ajo . Which ones ? The best way I can remember is the ones with keyboards are the ones I overdubbed in Ajo .
Track by track with Mike Lennon
Tell us about the songs - Psycho Sue - was written about a real girlfriend of mine she was a real life version of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast A Tiffany''s . She was from Rural Connecticut and very pretty but became very street wise in New York . The song is written in the style Bob Wills. Memories On My Mind - That''s a song influenced by Gram Parsons on The Byrds Sweetheart Of The Rodeo album . Peaceful Harmony , This Is Where I belong , If They Aint Got The Money , Babe Don''t Go , and La La La Land - were written on Bleeker Street in the basement of the Back Fence under the influence of Bob Dylan"s Blonde On Blonde . Psycho Stomp - was an insrumental written for the original Psychobillys ( Mike Lennon , Marc West , Doc Hi Life and Danny Fernandez " ) . Psycho C & W comes - from a 1999 session in Tempe , Arizona all instruments by Bruce Connole . This was a commisioned track. Bruce Connole is a Tempe Az music legend who had a band called the Suicide Kings . . Things Are Great In The U.S.A and Just another Day In The Good Ol'' U.S.A are two songs from my early Greenwich Village days in the style of early Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen''s Nebraska .
PsychoRanchero This Is Where I Belong this is the first song I recorded in Ajo . I had writers block and hadn''t written any songs for a while . I was playing with the song and the middle came out of the blue . I started writing in a Ranchero style after that . I first heard got into Ranchero when I was working the lights at Traamps a great rock club in Manhatten . I saw the Texas Tornados a bunch of times and really got into it . On An Early Winters Morning was writtren in New York City for Joanie Mokus the banjo player foe The Mokus Family ( A Newgrass Band that played in Greenwich Village in 1989-90 ) to sing . Going Down To San Luis is another rewrite it was originally Going Down To New Orleans a Psychobillys tune written with Marc West . I found that the Bluegrass type songs I had written converted to Ranchero beautifully and I '' ll Be Far Away , I Want To Know and Your The One are three more Mokus family tunes that I reworked into a Ranchero style . When The Sun Goes Down is like Roy Orbison with the Texas Tornados . Under Western Skies , I Cant Stop Thinking Of You , Psychadelia Mexicana , Jealousy , and Hey Salena came from hearing nothing but Ranchero on the radio in Ajo and supermarkets in Phoenix . Hey Salena was written about the famous Mexican singer Salena before she was killed by her agent in 1995 . I''m proud of this collection It was a period of rebirth for me . It was also a great experiance playing all instruments myself I kept the Psychobillies drum kit and amps in my apartment and had fun paying them . The Ajo album I used a keyboard but played the keys like I''d play the drums . It was a great time but also a very hard time financially . I was literally stranded at first I hated it but the more time I spent there I realized how quiet and peaceful it was . I actually recorded recorded enough material for two albums lots of old cowboy tunes and more Ranchero music . I hope you enjoy this album It was a unique time for me . Peace , Mike Lennon

Psycho C&W and Psycho Ranchero was released in the summer of 1993 . " The packaging was non existant , I bought one hundred cassettes with clear cases and dubbed and labeled them myself . They sold for two dollars and fifty cents . I used to play my acoustic guitar and sing outside the Copper Sands Motel in Ajo , Arizona which I managed with my wife at the time . I also played in the gas stations and rest stops in Ajo , Why , and Gila Bend Az. I just used to park , sit on a bench and sing these songs with the cassettes in a box marked $2.50 next to me , I also sold some in Centralia Washington the same way at quick stops when I was working in a rock quarry there in the fall of ''93 . I sold the last twenty or so at the Phoenix Dog Track saturday morning Flea Market when I moved to Phoenix in 1994 .
