Trini Christmas is about the special holiday foods we prepared and served around Christmas as I was growing up on the islands. Christmas was the time when everyone visited with friends and family. With no phones on the islands in those days, you had to be prepared for company at a moments notice. Christmas was the time to share food and drink. The more you served the more prosperity you projected.
This song depicts a true Trini feast. It is written in the Parang style of Venezuelan Christmas music as adopted by the islanders of Trinidad. We use the spirit of the music and add the calypso tempo for zest.
My music is story-telling full of the rhythm of the islands, featuring steel drums, guitars, cuatros, keyboards and numerous percussion instruments.
I grew up on the island of Trinidad during the growth of calypso music from its pure story telling birth and into the Soca renditions of today. My style goes back to its original concept of humorous story telling. Growing up on the islands gave me the rhythm and tempo for my music.
