Details:
South Africa’s instrumental supergroup Sterling EQ has responded to the overwhelming demand from their fans, and is proud to release STERLING SPEEL AFRIKAANS – a delightful 15 track album consisting of instrumental versions of some of the most legendary Afrikaans songs from the 70s, 80s and 90s. The album, which was launched on 4 October at a packed Barnyard Theatre, Willowbridge, promises to build on the success of their much acclaimed debut album Nova, and their highly appraised live DVD Sterling EQ Live in Concert.

This SAMA-nominated instrumental popgroup has taken the genre of instrumental music to new heights in South Africa, and has proven their strength in the industry through sold out shows across the country, international appearances, live performances at high profile events such as Mnet Idols, SA Music Awards Show, IPL Opening matches, and many more. Not forgetting the in-depth features on all SA’s major TV shows and coverage in local newspapers and magazines

Sterling Speel Afrikaans, a Five Seasons Entertainment production (produced by Riaan Steyn, with executive producers Harold Schenk and Carina Bruwer) promises to be yet another benchmark in the genre of instrumental music in SA. Not only does it offer the listener a delightful trip down memory lane; it is also a golden tribute to Afrikaans music and songwriters from yesteryear.

In March 2009, Sterling EQ successfully released their debut album Nova which was succeeded by their highly anticipated DVD Sterling EQ Live. “Since the first album was focused on virtuosity, we have decided to place more emphasis on the magnificence of the melody with the second”, says Carina Bruwer, flautist and manager of Sterling EQ. “ The perfect songs were right here on our doorstep, and using Afrikaans music presented us with an opportunity to pay tribute to the Afrikaans language, the culture and most importantly our Afrikaans fans! Simultaneously it also enables us to share this music with our non-Afrikaans speaking audience”.

“We asked our fans which Afrikaans songs they’d like to hear the “Sterling-version” of. We were overwhelmed by their endless suggestions, and could only select 14 from over 50 suggested songs”. Bruwer adds that this has been the quartet’s most daunting tasks to date. ” Naturally, we want to produce an album that’s both electrifying and out of the ordinary, without diverting away from the music’s original appeal”

Songs like Mannetjies Roux, Voshaarnooi, Karoonag, Skarumba, a delightful medley of TV theme tunes called TV1 Keurspel, and many more are included in this feelgood album which promises to be a festive season hit!
