His father was a minister, musician and gospel singer who helped nurture Gary''s God given singing talents. Needles to say, Gary''s childhood was filled with southern gospel music, as his entire family was gifted with musical talents.
Gary''s fondest memories were the family Gospel Music Jam''s. After over indulging in Mom''s Sunday Feast, family and friends would gather to sing, play and praise the Lord.
Early on, Gary demonstrated God''s gift in southern gospel music, praising Jesus Christ by singing solos and duets with his Dad in worship services, homecomings and revivals.
In reflection he says, "Thinking back to my 8th birthday, I remember Dad giving me my first guitar. He taught me to play and sing ''Grandfather''s Clock'' and ''Take Up Thy Cross and Follow Me''. I thank our good Lord everyday for my Mom and Dad who were my greatest influence''s in southern gospel music, with their love, encouragement and support."
Through the grace of God, Gary now stands on the stage almost every week somewhere immersed in a charismatic aura with inspirational music that appeals to all ages.
Gary Harbin has been seen on the Music City Gospel Showcase as seen on Satellite Networks, which is broadcast world wide. And more recently, Gary was in Southern Gospel Magazine. However, Gary''s most memorable performance was the wonderful privilege to sing at his Mom and Dad''s 50th Wedding Anniversary. His most heartfelt, yet rejoicing moment was singing for his Mom and Dad the day they went home to Jesus.
For a time, (years actually) Gary stepped away from his gospel music ministry. Gary says, "My reason for departing (feelings of inadequacy and not being worthy to deliver God''s message) aren''t very important now".
The Lord has touched Gary''s heart to take up the cross and minister God''s Glory using southern gospel music. Along with urgings from family, friends and fellow artists, Gary is doing what Jesus has always meant for him to do and what he Must Do!
"I love the Lord Jesus Christ with all of my heart and soul and sing God''s Praise, Honor and Glory because He is First in my life. I know the credit for my voice and my gospel music ministry belongs to and is, because of God''s merciful grace. I will always glorify Him for everything He does in and through me". Gary continues, "I am truly Humbled and Honored for the privilege to minister His Magnificent Love with southern gospel music."
Gary has recorded two recent projects. A DVD last year in Pigeon Forge TN while performing at the Grand Resort Convention Center during the Music City Gospel Showcase Convention and Awards Show. And just recently and now available, a new CD project "God Still Answers Prayer", recorded at White Harvest Studios in Georgia. Gary''s selection of songs takes you back with cherished Ole’ Time Gospel Glory classics that are sure to inspire and bless all who receive them.
