W e are The Interior Castle, the Mazzei Family — siblings, Francine, Therese, Loretta and Michael, and our mother, Edith. We’ve been harmonizing since we were children, always striving to attain a successful career in the secular music world. Our father, Joseph, financially helped us eventually acquire our own home studio, with Michael as engineer. Because of this, we were able to write, arrange and produce our own musical compositions, in the hopes of a record contract. But all we were met with were years of discouragement, and rejections. Despite these many disappointments, we never gave up our dream, and stayed together as a group. Through the encouragement of the late Fr. Mario Del Signore, who asked us to sing at a Christmas Mass, we began a new career, producing religious music. This was the beginning of our present ministry.
As with our previous Christmas recording and our other religious albums, this Christmas CD is a combination of traditional carols, classical hymns, original compositions and several Italian songs.
We sincerely hope you enjoy this latest collection, and that it will enkindle in you the true spirit of Christmas, for years to come. Though it be only a faint whisper of what might have been heard on that Blessed Night, may our music fill your heart with peace and happiness. And may it bring you closer to Jesus, until the moment you at last hear the heavenly hosts, eternally glorifying Him, The Lion Of The Tribe Of Judah.
In God’s Embrace, The Interior Castle
CONCERNING OUR GROUP’S NAME: it is also the name of the great treatise, written by the 16th century Spanish Carmelite nun and Doctor of the Catholic Church, St. Teresa of Avila. In this mystical, spiritual work, she describes the soul as a sparkling diamond castle with many rooms or “mansions” inside. “His Majesty”, the King, our Lord, abides in the infinitely spacious, center dwelling place. The Interior Castle is considered to be the epitome of all St. Teresa’s writings.
A special note concerning the song Angels We Have Heard On High: we dedicate it to our little Shepherd dog, Gretel, who spent most of her final years keeping us company while we worked in our studio. She left this earth, and joined the angels during the production of this song.
