Details:
Decayed AGL started as a three piece horror/punk band in https://www.tradebit.com band went through a couple name changes such as Crypt Kicker Trio, and the Decayed; at the time sticking with " the Decayed." Covering many old-misfits and ramones songs and writing an abundance of new material, the band went through several line-up changes until about 2001. As things began to solidify and the band gained a steady line-up, they recorded an EP entitled: Insides. Shortly after Insides, the band self-recorded a full length album entitled: Dawn of the Dead. The line-up at this time consisted of: J. Lantern (aka John 8:44): Vocals/Guitars/ Key-boards; https://www.tradebit.comul: Drums/Backing Vocals; and Henry Bowers (aka Hank): Bass/Backing Vocals. the Decayed at this time played shows primarily at Legion Posts, Schools, and parties. This was due to the members young age. Lantern was at the time 14, Ghoul was 12, and Bowers was 14.
Decayed, even though being pretty much a old school punk band, always listened to and embraced metal. And this has always shown through, even in the early days... There were always guitar solos, heavy drumming, and once in a while a growl or two. It was after the Dawn of the Dead LP that things took a change of pace. During the band''s usual 3-4 hour practices, more and more metal was emerging. It soon became clear that if the band was going to be more metal orientated, they were going to need another guitarist, so that the vocals could get more attention. the Decayed set auditions for months, and tried a bevy of axe-men. Finally, Jordan Roepke called the singer and in one 20 minute trial with only Lantern and Roepke, the fourth member was sealed. It was this line-up that most would consider the first true: DECAYED. It was in many ways more metal. Jordan brought an extraordinary talent of soloing to the table, and enhanced many songs with his cleverness. It wasn''t long until the new band was ready to record another album. Up until this point, J. Lantern was doing primarily all the writing of music and lyrics. On this new recording, DECAYED, Henry Bowers would contribute a fair amount of writing in the music department, and Jordan wrote all his solos, which added much to each song. The album was recorded at a studio in Waukesha, WI called: Waukesha Recording by: Tony Divjak. This recording is very rare now. There were some problems with the sound and some mistakes by the bands own fault, and it was decided that the album should be re-recorded. It should be marked that there are tracks on that recording that the producer and the singer and drummer still prefer. At this time, the band parted ways with drummer: https://www.tradebit.comUL; not by choice, but because of age issues and other conflicts.
Enter Logan Stang. Henry Bowers had been long-time friends with the jazz drummer, and egged him on to play with the band. It was also at this time that J. Lantern decided to rename the band: Decayed 8:44. Not only because it was a totally different band without his https://www.tradebit.comul-, but also because he was sure that somewhere out there, there must be another Decayed... The band re-recorded the self-titled: DECAYED I, and it turned out much ''heavier.'' The guitars were tuned down a half step and amps were used instead of plugging pedals directly into the board. The band also played many shows at this time including: The Rave, the Globe East, Tanner Paul, the Orpheum Theatre in Madison, and many more smaller venues such as bars, schools, legion halls, ect.
At this time Decayed 8:44 was practicing at Logan''s parents home. Many more songs were being written in that time, including many that are not recorded on any album; some live or on a practice demo. It wasn''t long until the band was eager to get back in the studio. The band recorded DECAYED II: Autumn Comes New Death again with Tony Divjak. This album took forever to come out. It was done being recorded for a year or more before the band got the mixed disc back with a few tracks not starting or ending in the right place. To this day it is not complete.
The band continued to play live at this time, but slowly things got weird... there was a while where the band was playing as a three piece again: without Jordan. Jordan returned for a while, and it wasn''t long after his return that Logan left. At this time, Jordan or Henry would play drums at practices; however that didn''t last long. That was 2004.
It was the end of DECAYED everyone thought... https://www.tradebit.comtern and Henry Bowers stayed together and started a new project: WRITHEN, and revived Crypt Kicker Trio with https://www.tradebit.comul on drums again. That continued for about two years...
https://www.tradebit.comtern quit Writhen and because of the way things went with that unhappy separation, Crypt Kicker Trio also seized. Lantern and Ghoul started writing and recording like fiends in the following years, and recorded and released 3 albums and 2 EPs in that time. Not all recordings were the same band, but nonetheless...
It was at this time DECAYED re-emerged. One of those 3 full length recordings was as you guessed: DECAYED AGL''s Pitch-Black All Winter. They decided to use the old band name because it was in its roots closest to that band. They switched the 8:44 to AGL again notating the line-up switch, and as good promotion for their other main project: A GHOUL''S LANTERN (aka AGL). After recording the album, they new if they meant to play it live, they would need at least 2 new members. Searching and searching they found two guitarists and again egged someone on to play with them; this time on bass instead of drums. Their names were Aaron: lead/rhythm guitar, Adam: rhythm guitar, and Barr: bass. They practiced once a week, and played only two shows in the one year together. This in time just didn''t work out. It didn''t work for various reasons, but to the brothers: lantern and ghoul, it was fun. It was definitely not a waste of time. That line-up ended in Nov. 2009.
Not long after, Lantern, Ghoul, and Barr got a practice room at the Hide House sharing a room with Jon Liedtke of Face of Ruin and Shroud of Despondency among others.... and it wasn''t long until Barr had enough... and he quit. He was really in the end doing Lantern a favor by playing bass. (They had met at MATC-downtown, and over time https://www.tradebit.comtern persuaded him to play with his band that desperately needed bass.) It was in this time that Lantern got back into contact with his best friend and for all intents and purposes: brother... "the third brother." It was not long until Henry Bowers was back on the bass. They practiced at the Hide House for a few more months until equipment started to go missing. Lantern and Ghoul''s friends from Shroud of Despondency left the room and so did Decayed agl.
The band just released the albulm: PITCH-BLACK ALL WINTER on their label: V-Jolt Records. They self recorded/produced/mixed it in their studio: V-Jolt Studios and had it mastered at their good friend''s : Tony Divjaks. Although Bowers is in the band, he was not in the band when the LP was recorded, so he is not featured. However, Jon Liedtke adds some flavor with 3 solos on selected tracks. In addition to the LP, they also released two alternate singles with the album called: Flood of Despair and Birthing Below. Their other band: AGL also released a promotional single (almost sold out already). They are currently promoting the discs and are selling them in several stores around town and are working on getting them distributed farther away. They also have an entire EP (based on the writings of H.P. Lovecraft) written and ready to record. As always: STAY DECAYED!
