Around 1981 my good friend Rick Bozzo (bassist for Meatloaf and many other bands and albums) showed me a bass line he came up with on his fretless bass. Already it had an A, B and C section but no chords or melody. Intrigued by the possibilities offered by the locomotive like and very interesting lines, I came up with the chord changes and melody lines on my keyboards and alto saxophone which formed the song, leaving the bass lines completely intact and also adding a middle section of dueling bass lines (Rick''s fretless and my Minimoog). Since the bass line came first, this is why the song is titled, "Bottoms Up". It was a worthy addition to our band''s song line-up and I recorded all of the keyboard parts along with a drummer in my small studio. Many years later (2002) saw us recording an album with our new band, Bent Branes. Although all of the songs were new, we decided to reach into the archives because "Bottom''s Up" seemed like a good fit. We made a new recording of this song along with Bent Branes powerful drummer, Joe Carbone, staying as true to the original 1981 version such as not to lose the original magic. For unknown reasons, this recording has been downloaded tens of thousands of times from my web-site in the last few weeks, so I decided to put it here on CD Baby to see what happens. Enjoy!
