BIOGRAPHY
Brothers In Christ (BIC) members, Earl Teemer, Darren Perry and Ivan Jackson are like brothers. They have known each other since their pre-teens, singing with and/or playing for gospel groups who traveled in the same circles. Over the past 20+ years they have shared triumphant and challenging times, both in their personal lives and as BIC, i.e., the roller coaster ride of their careers, and the loss of love ones. The group has weathered disappointing business decisions made with less than favorable professionals and have disbanded and regrouped twice (once under its previous name, “One Accord” and with another lead singer). Through it all and because of it all, they have also shared their strengthened walk with Christ. They can testify that what God brings you to, he will bring you through! The theme for BIC’s previous releases, “From The Heart” was "Discipleship," and “Spreading the Message,” was "Praise." Their new release entitled, “It’s In The Word,” is about going through!
BIC has coined the term “Quartemporary” when asked to describe their sound. It’s a blend of traditional quartet with a contemporary flavor, comprised of the various styles of gospel they each bring to the group. Ivan Jackson (bass guitarist, lead & background vocalist, songwriter & arranger) says “thanks to my father, singing and playing gospel music was our family constitution. I grew up listening to groups like the Dixie Hummingbirds with their smooth vocal harmonies delivered with such clear diction, unique arrangements, and cleverly written lyrics, delivering God’s word. By the time I was 17 years old, my twin brother and I were playing for and recording with Carl Davis, formerly of the Swan Silvertones and The Dixie Hummingbirds.”
Darren Perry (lead and background vocalist, songwriter) began honing his vocal talents before he was a teen, as lead vocalist for various contemporary and traditional quartet gospel groups in the New York area.
Earl Teemer (guitarist, lead & background vocalist, songwriter and arranger) is a “preacher’s kid.” He also learned to appreciate gospel music at an early age. His early experiences include recording with Brooklyn''s “Godfather of Gospel,” the late Timothy Wright, and Albert Jamison & the Triboro Mass Choir.
Each member’s experiences have contributed to BIC’s “Quartemporary” sound and ministry. BIC has ministered to multi-generational and multi-cultural audiences, in coffee houses, concert halls, The Museum of Natural History, NYC and at churches around the country. They look forward to ministering with new and old audiences, sharing their journey in song via their new CD, “Its In the Word.”
