NEW AGE: Healing, CLASSICAL: New Age

Details:
Sound, like Qi or life force is all around us. Within each of us it travels its path through channels that interconnect our entire being. There are many ways to tap into our Qi, and many purposes for doing so. I first experienced this when I received acupuncture from Shendao Acupuncture & Herbs in Hawaii. Having been a pianist for 26 years, I was hoping to lessen the pain in my wrists for which Western medicine had told me surgery was the only cure - a cure I was reluctant to accept. However, the increasing pain was preventing me from creating music and celebrating my craft. To my extreme joy, the first treatment brought my hands back almost completely and the next couple fully restored my strength and ability to play without pain.
During my treatments, there was always good music playing, but I found it a distraction from the ability to fully focus on my body and my Qi. Silence, though, was also distracting. I learned that Qi cycles within us every 20 minutes and the moment made sense. Being a musician with sensitivity to the effects of music, I realized the melodic changes of the songs every few minutes during my treatment were pulling me out of my cycle. So I set out to score a 20 minute song to be played during my next treatment. During the creation of this song, I meditated on music as the blood of sound traveling through channels with song being the Shen, or spirit which defines them. I felt the score as one fluid movement which starts, evolves and returns, just as Qi does to complete its cycle. With song in hand, I headed to my treatment where I experienced my Qi completely, uninterrupted and clearer than ever before. My excitement led me to ensure I was not the only beneficiary and so began the creation of "Balancing the Qi". One year and much research later, the completion of the first full length recording was sent out to be tested with acupuncture. The feedback has been consistently focused on the positively increased results in client treatments. I also sent copies to friends who practice other healing crafts such as massage, meditation, yoga and chiropractic methods. All have relayed similar results as well as their pleasure in working with new music. All of the recordings are performed only with acoustic instruments by people - no machines, this keeps the Qi alive in the music.
Aloha, Shawn Livingston

BIO.

Born Shawn Livingston Moseley, Shawn was raised on the North Shore of Oahu at Waimea Bay. At the age of 4 he began playing piano. By the time he was 8 he was already competing in national piano competitions throughout the US, quickly gaining recognition as one of the top pianist for his age, with special attention being placed on his musicianship, advanced repertoire and stage presence. By the age of 14 Shawn was competing against pianist older than him, many attaining their Master''s in music and performance. It was also at the age of 14 Shawn realized that it was time to stop competing and start composing for he felt it was time for his creative voice to be heard
So for a nice break from the demands of his classical studies and the desire to keep his love for music strong, Shawn started Reggae band Dread Ashanti, with friend Bryce NimtzMyers. Dread Ashanti continued on successfully for them through high school, leading them to share the stage with Steel Pulse, Yellowman, Peter Broggs, and many other great reggae legends. In 1992, graduating form Punahou High School in Manoa, Shawn moved to Boston, Ma., to attend school at Berklee College of Music. There he left after 5 years of studies with a Bachelors of Music with Majors in Music Production and Engineering, Songwriting and a minor in Film scoring. Also while in Boston Shawn spent a lot of his free time practicing in the field of Music Therapy, bringing song and the spirit of music to the deaf, blind and elderly.

Ready to leave the East Coast with his new skills, Shawn moved to San Francisco to work at The Plant Recording Studio in Sausalito, Ca. and also various clubs in the Bay area. During his time in San Francisco, Shawn worked with artist Dave Matthews, Metallica, Elliot Smith and Destiny''s Child to name a few. He also worked for online music publications Sonicnet, an MTVi company and Addicted to Noise as an Audio Engineer and Consultant, started by long time senior editor of Rolling Stones Magazine, Michael Goldberg. After a 4 year stay and a desire to get out of the fog, Shawn moved back home to Hawaii for a year and took a job with True Kiss Disc Studios in Hawaii Kai for Japanese artist "TK", where he worked on an album with Japanese pop star Namie Amuro. After that record it became very clear to Shawn that it was time to shift gears again and try to get closer to his passion, working on new music and styles through production and composition.

Remembering the wealth of promising new artist, Shawn moved back to Boston where he opened Witch Doctor Recording in Salem, MA., and ran the studio there for almost 5 years before moving it to DUMBO in Brooklyn, NY. During that time Shawn worked with Blues and Jazz legends Ron Levy, Karl Denson, Melvin Sparks, Jerry Portnoy, Kilombo Mambo, David Murray and many, many other wonderful musicians. After many late nights and countless hours in the studio, Shawn decided that it was now time to take a break from producing and engineering records for others and that it was finally time to start producing a record of his own music that he began working on when he was 14.

Ready to fully dedicate himself again to composition and hours of practice on the piano, Shawn only had one thing to really overcome, the extreme pain in his arms and wrists that came on after playing for no more than an hour. That is when he discovered the amazing healing properties of Acupuncture. What he found after receiving his first treatments was a return to complete control of his hands and the ability to once again play without pain. These treatments also inspired a way to share his music within the ideas he set forth to create it, for healing. Thus began the first series of songs composed for Acupuncture, Healing and Massage.

Shawn is currently now living back home in Hawaii on the North Shore, actively composing new music while continuing his studies on the effects of music when used in the healing arts.
