Acupuncture mp3 audio-4 PART

Visiting An Acupuncturist - What You Need To Know

You have looked into acupuncture, and you are ready to find a practitioner. Your first step in finding an acupuncturist is to ask your current medical professional. They may want to know why you are seeking alternative treatment, thats ok, it is their job to ask. It is always a good idea to discuss any medical issues with your doctor, this includes complementary treatments. Doing so prevents unneeded complications due to your doctor being unaware. You may be surprised at how helpful your doctor is in helping you find someone. In fact, it is possible that your doctor may use some acupuncture techniques as well.

If you do not have a regular doctor, or you do not get a good answer from yours, then you need to find another route to locating a good acupuncturist. Word of mouth is the next best thing. Ask anyone you know that has received acupuncture treatments for their recommendation. You will want to find out what the practitioner is like, what to expect, and how effective the treatments are.

Once you locate an acupuncturist, be sure to check their credentials. You will first have to find out what your locality requires in the way of licensing to be sure the credentials are legitimate. There are also national organizations that accredit those practicing acupuncture or provide referrals to participating members. It goes without saying that a good medical education is a plus when it comes to making the right choice. In short, you should take finding an acupuncturist as seriously as finding a new doctor.

Now that you have found an acupuncturist, it is time for your first visit. The practitioner should ask you lots of questions about the specifics of your condition, your lifestyle and about any medications or supplements you take. Regardless of who brings it up, now is also the time to inquire about the treatment itself, and any concerns you may have.

At this stage many people are worried that getting needles stuck all over their body is going to hurt. Keep in mind that acupuncture does not use regular sewing needles, but rather very fine needles. That is not to say that some patients do not experience some discomfort. This can be especially true at the first visit, when anxiety may be running high.

Typically you will lie down and be relaxed. There can be dozens of needles inserted during treatment. After insertion these needles may be manipulated, heated or even have a weak electrical charge - all depending on the practitioner and course of treatment. It is not uncommon for a course of treatment to last for several visits, spread out over many weeks.

At each successive visit there should be some sort of improvement. Many patients find that after going to an acupuncturist to treat one condition, they will return to get other conditions treated as well. It is still a good idea to discuss such treatments with your regular doctor.

After your first session, you should be advised of any possible side effects. Though these are rare, it is best to know what to look for, just in case a problem arises.

While many people firmly believe in the power of acupuncture to heal, it is best to be sure you are being diagnosed by a qualified medical professional. That is one reason why choosing an acupuncturist with a more thorough medical background makes sense - they will then be able to make better diagnoses.

One final thing, you may want to check with your health insurance provider to see if acupuncture is covered. It may depend on what the acupuncture is being used to treat. Back pain, for example, is being more widely accepted as a legitimate claim when it comes to insurance companies. If your insurance provider will not cover your visits, then you will need to discuss payments with your acupuncturist. Most understand that insurance can be an issue, and will be willing to work out a payment plan.

You should now have enough information to make your first visit to an acupuncturist a positive one. If so, you may find yourself going back again and again. And the next time somebody else is looking for an acupuncturist, they just may come to you for advice.
