Details:

Jacob Wise, a jazz guitarist from Austin, Texas, has released his debut album entitled “Storms.” With nine original compositions, the album is a strong artistic statement. But it’s not simply a traditional jazz CD. Although the warm sound of Wise’s Gibson 335 comes from squarely within the modern mainstream style, the music features strong melodies and a wide range of influences, from the uptempo samba of “I-35”, to the Neil Young-style rock ballad “October”, to the moody Elvin Jones groove of “Storms”. With strong support by drummer Andy Beaudoin and upright bassist Aaron Allen, the music on “Storms” bears repeated listening.

A native of Austin, TX, where he absorbed the city’s blues and rock influences, Wise is currently a master’s student in jazz performance at the University of North Texas. As a member of the renowned One O’ Clock Lab Band, he has performed with guest artists including Lyle Mays, Pat Metheny’s keyboardist and longtime collaborator, as well as John Mosca, the leader of the Village Vanguard Orchestra. Wise’s guitar influences range from the hard-bop intensity of Wes Montgomery and Pat Martino, to the subtle harmonies of modern masters like Pat Metheny, Adam Rogers, and Lage Lund.
