During the time when this album was originally created, the members of the ConSono constellation were at a time of their lives that breathed spirituality in a quite intense manner to them both. This was gathered in the common entity ConSono, originally from the Latin verb meaning "to resound". The final result, the album itself, is a collection of musical and intellectual sources of inspiration translated through the minds of two persons who actually met by chance, sharing a common interest in sound as a universal language.
This first record of ConSono, Hymns of Deceased Deities, is now considered a rarity. The works collected on this album are very disparate both in terms of date of creation and sound, but still many listeners argue it holds a remarkable essence of wholeness.
Magnus and Jens mainly chose to use the technique of sampling and other electronic equipment to channel their audio visions. The sampling of sounds ranged from household items to vinyl records found in rare boutiques or simply in the family collections. The electronic equipment consisted of two samplers, each weighing more or less ten kilos. These machines did not provide any hard disk memory, and as a result the work progress demanded that to get the sound structure for any individual song, every sound had to be loaded individually to create the totality of an arrangement.
But ConSono where never interested in any division between electronic or acoustic expression of sound. To resound was rather the main purpose; to express something to be enhanced and rendered by the listener. Therefore the result was always more interesting than the methods of reaching it. So also on this record the listener will find acoustic guitars, breathing in bottles filled with different quantities of liquid, the scraping on metallic pipes, live drums, live piano and other means of direct expression. Almost every song was recorded on different locations. Some where made in basements, others in attics, and a few at home, always mixed down on a four-track recorder.
The lyrics, as important as the music, where inspired by literature and personal experience. It is up to the listener to judge what is what. The only thing consistent to all of us is to resound.
