Dear Listener,
Thank you for your support. I will briefly explain the concept of this cd. First, the band is known as JABARI. The term JABARI comes from the Swahili word for bold, different and the brave one. Second, the title of this cd is Gospazz. The term Gospazz comes from the fusing of the words gospel and jazz hence Gospazz. Even though gospel and jazz have common roots based deeply in the struggles of Africans brought here as slaves in America, somewhere along the way Blacks, especially in the church, began to attribute negative connotations to the now infamous form of music known as jazz. Some of this negativity might be due to the origins of the word jazz. Gospazz has the anointing, sincerity, feeling and witness of gospel but also the intensity, passion, technique, power and preciseness of jazz. I declare that there is a definite place for anointed instrumental music in the church. When I need encouragement, I often remind myself of 1 Samuel 16:23 (KJV) which says the following: And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took a harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him. This scripture confirms that God can use instrumental music to be a blessing to His people. Instrumental music comes directly from the soul. Some things can’t be expressed vocally and words tend to just get in the way. I hope you enjoy.
