Details:
I wrote this song in 1995 when my young relative died in an auto related automobileaccident. I rewrote it in 2001 and again just last month This is a hard driving pop rock song with a great rhythm section really puttin it dowm!

It starts off with this spoken anrration over a vamped piano background;

John Miller Narration

Alcohol can be a killer! Every 10 minutes an American dies in an alcohol related automobile accident. Responsible Drinking can change that! Don’t drive drunk! Don’t ride with a drunk driver! John Miller didn’t drink responsibly!

Here''s the liner notes:

³How to drink and not kill yourself", or
³You gotta be smarter than the booze you drink²

Drinking alcohol is a matter of personal choice. Anyone who
chooses to drink alcohol owes it to themselves, their loved ones,
and anyone they may come in contact with while they are drinking
to understand alcohol and its use for recreational purposes. This
includes learning the warning signals of alcoholism before recrea-
tional drinking begins. A simple call to a local chapter of Alcoholics
Anonymous will enable you to ask for the ³10 Questions Pamphlet².
Read all the questions. These are the warning signals of alcoholism.
Unfortunately the questions can¹t be answered until you start drink-
ing, but if you read them before you start recreational drinking, it will
be easier to recognize them if they occur when you drink. Answering
yes to any 2 of the 10 questions means you are an alcoholic. AA is
the most knowledgeable organization to recognize and treat
alcoholism.
The most important thing to understand about alcohol is it is an
anesthetic drug! Different people have different tolerance for anes-
thetics. Some people are completely drunk on 2 beers, and others
can drink 2 quarts of hard liquor and still function reasonably well.
Alcohol can be as dangerous or more dangerous than a firearm
when used without knowing its nature and its effects on the human
Alcohol can be as dangerous or more dangerous than a firearm
when used without knowing its nature and its effects on the human
mind and body. All states have mandatory hunter safety courses to
teach people how to safely use firearms. It is also required to take a
firearm safety course to receive a permit to carry a pistol. There is a
rule in business that should be applied here. That rule says, ³If it
makes sense, do it!² So if alcohol can be as dangerous as a firearm,
doesn¹t it make sense to teach people how to use alcohol safely?
John Miller lost his life at 19 years of age because he never
learned how to use alcohol safely. Thousands of American lives
can be saved if people are taught how to use alcohol safely. This
should happen preferably before they start drinking, but in any case
at some point in their life if they choose to consume alcohol on a
recreational basis. Remember, an American dies every 10 minutes
in an alcohol related automobile accident.
One last point: Alcoholics can never use alcohol safely! It is a
proven fact there is only one safe course of action for an alcoholic:
1st admit you¹re an alcoholic, and 2nd attend as many AA meetings
as necessary to maintain a safe and sober life through complete abstinence.
I offer this information with deep hope that those who read these
words and listen to the tragic story of John Miller will learn from
John¹s mistakes and not repeat them, and live a full, rich, and
happy life - as I have.

And here is a little about me and my dealings with alcohol:

Bio Supplement

I’d like to add to my bio some information that will briefly outline my credentials to speak on alcohol, alcoholism, drinking and driving, and the safe use of alcohol. There is no stronger testimony of the truth than experience! I wrote John Miller to help other’s learn from John’s tragic death and benefit from my 55 years of experience with alcohol. I lost 2 relatives to alcohol related automobile accidents, I had 2 alcoholic sisters, and alcoholic grandfather, an alcoholic uncle, and an alcoholic wife.

My family was not all alcoholics we had a lot of hard drinkers in the mix as well. I was a hard drinker, as was my father. The difference between an alcoholic and a hard drinker is, hard drinkers have a huge tolerance for anesthetic drugs. Anesthetic drugs cause “anesthesia,” “which is the loss of sensation with or without the loss of consciousness” Ethyl alcohol is an anesthetic drug. Ever discuss the drug problem with a drink in your hand? My Dad could drink a case of beer watching a ball game then go over to the bar to have a few beers. I drank cognac, between 1 and 2 fifths a day, when I could afford it. I drank brandy when I couldn’t afford cognac. Here is an important point my Dad drove for 60 years, I’ve been driving for 55 years and neither of us ever had a DWI or DUI. Getting a DUI is a sure sign the person is an alcoholic, and should get to AA ASAP before he kills himself or some innocent person on the highway.

I wanted to add this supplement to my bio so that it is clear that I have experience with alcohol use, alcoholism, as well as drinking and driving, in the hope that by sharing my experience with others, lives will be saved. I found out the older I get the smarter my Father was. His motto was “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” He was right when I was a kid, and he’s more right now that I’m and adult an been one for some time.

Information is a powerful tool in dealing with and preventing tragedies. Let me give you a little information on the tragic death of my young relative John Miller.

The song John Miller is the sad and tragic story of a bright life that was snuffed out way too soon! My hope and prayer is people, especially young people, will listen to John’s story and have an “Ah Ha Moment” realizing had John learned how to use alcohol safely he would be with us today. I aim this at young people because the statistics show that the deaths in alcohol related car accidents have a disproportionately high rate of drivers in their late teens to early 20s.

It is my greatest hope; that the combination of John’s death and my 55 years of experience with alcohol use, alcoholism, alcoholics, AA, and drinking and driving will save lives by helping people learn how to use alcohol safely!!!!

The facts are no one is going to stop people from drinking alcohol! Prohibition was a miserable failure. Therefore the smart thing to do is teach people how to use alcohol safely.

It is my hope and prayer that people will listen to the story of John Miller and decide to learn how to drink responsibly.
