Using veteran musicians from his native New Jersey and a lean sinewy guitar sound that always feels effortless, this record delivers on many fronts.
From the raucous, Springsteen like opener "Keep Me Cool", to the sultry blues vibe of "Counting Sheep" this young artist delivers a fast paced yet smooth ride, switching musical gears without a hitch. In the pocket grooves like "Shine Your Soul" and "Wash Me Away" blend well with more intimate and introspective tunes such as "Bluebird", "Hey Emily" and "39.50" (BTW...extra credit points to those who can determine what the number 39.50 represents). There are many influences here but no mimicry. Kevin Basko''s style is unique to himself yet very familiar, conjuring images of John Mayer, Dave Mathews and even more iconic names like Paul Simon and James Taylor, Et al.
Like most good songwriters Kevin Basko takes you places and tells you stories that touch the listener on many different levels. This is a fine first effort from a young artist with a bright future....you''ll listen to it again and again!...........
