Singer/Songwriter Raquel Pomerantz Gershon entertains and inspires audiences with her large repertoire of Jewish standards interspersed with her own original compositions. A gifted composer of contemporary Jewish music, Raquel''s song "Kol Yisrael Arevim" was chosen as a finalist in the first annual American Zionist Movement Songwriting Competition.
Raquel''s first album, Jerusalem On My Mind, features 10 original songs about Jerusalem, Israel and the hope for peace. Raquel has combined meaningful lyrics with her eclectic musical style to produce an album that is as musically rich as it is Jewishly uplifting. Touching the very depths of the Jewish soul, Raquel''s music appeals to all ages and has received rave reviews. Her songs are being sung enthusiastically in schools and synagogues around the U.S.
Raquel has been performing Jewish music since her childhood, when she and her father and siblings would sing Shabbat z''mirot and Israeli songs in five-part harmony for anyone who would listen. In subsequent years, her performances have included stints with the Zamir Chorale of New York, The New York Chorale Society, and as a soloist with the Jerusalem Chamber Choir on concert tours through Israel, Germany and Norway. In recent years, she has been a frequent performer at conferences of the Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education. She also served as a cantorial soloist for several years.
A talented and creative Jewish educator, Raquel serves as Jewish music and tefillah specialist at Levine Academy in Dallas, TX, where she lives with her husband and children.
