Details:
Evangelist James H. McMickin was born March 27, 1966 in Russellville, AL. He has called Jasper, AL his home since December of 1977. It was there that he graduated from Walker High School in 1984 as a member of the National Honor Society. Upon graduation, Bro. James evangelized part-time while holding a part-time grocery store job with lenient hours to suit his calling, until he launched into full-time evangelism January 1, 1989. He upset several of his high school teachers with his decision to put his calling ahead of college. That does not mean he has not continued his education--he is an avid reader.

You see, Bro. James has known his calling ever since he can remember--from the time he could articulate, “I a God-called preacher man” (you will have to excuse the toddler grammar). Throughout childhood he never cast this calling aside. He was born-again at the tender age of seven, baptized in a catfish pond by Pastor John W. Autry, who began his pastorate at what is now called Philadelphia Deliverance Tabernacle in 1972, only months before this childhood conversion. This exciting church is Bro. James’ home-base today, because every evangelist needs a good home-base.

On January 15, 1986, Bro. James received the ministry of songwriting through the gift of prophecy. A Florida evangelist came to a church in Jasper. As James sat at the piano, this evangelist prophesied that he saw sweet notes of music flowing over the airwaves, and people kneeling down to worship the Lord. At that time, James thought that it only entailed the singing and piano playing--until God gave the first song on January 30, 1986, the second song on January 31, the third on February 2--you get the picture. Since that time the Lord has given him almost 100 songs. He took his songs to the recording studio for the first time on March 30, 1987. He has completed ten Southern/Country Gospel recordings to date, and since 1997 has had twelve single releases to national/international radio. A few of these you may have heard on Southern Gospel radio are “Freeways Were Made For The Preacherman”, “Heaven In My Heart”, “Born In The Fire”, “The Story Behind The Story”, “Good Lord Willing And The Saints Don’t Rise”, and “Life-Long Love”.

Now, from this brand-new recording, he has released , in April, two singles simultaneously--”Just Like Judge Roy Moore” along with the complimenting recitation “Standing With Judge Roy Moore”. Just these two tracks, on their own merit, makes this a must-have CD. The song starts out with James’ hearing the Honorable Judge Moore in Arley, AL back in the nineties during the Gadsden case and continues on to point out that, even after years of enduring even hotter battles, Judge Moore has unwaveringly stood for what’s right. James affirms in the song his own resolve to stand with him. The recitation, in turn, challenges the listener to take a stand for God and with God’s people.

Another must-have on this CD is “Separation Of Sin And State”, a hard-hitting “preaching song” that shoots holes through liberal myths. Wow! This has got to be James’ most politically-incorrect project ever, especially considering that the title song unabashedly affirms that the Christian Faith is what really counts--”Faith That Pays Off”.

Track #7, “ It’s Gonna Work Out In Jesus’ Name”, is certainly a testimony to what James went through in trying to do this project. He had planned it for December 2005, but then an auto accident derailed everything. On December 9, 2005, after half a million accident-free miles all over the US and Canada, James was driving in a 45mph zone only two miles from home when a young driver forgot to look both ways and pulled out right in front of him. His head busted the windshield, causing neck injury, and he sustained left hand/wrist injuries. He could not sign his name for about four days (yes, he’s a southpaw), and he didn’t play the piano for over three weeks (he plays the piano on all of his recordings, as well as other instruments on the earlier ones). This was not good for the planned recording. To add insult to injury, he had to use most of his recording funds to buy a dependable replacement vehicle, thanks to a balking insurance adjustor. Over the winter, as soon as he was physically able, he went to the studio on borrowed funds, and did the final session on Valentine’s Day. Imagine all of this hanging over his head as he does the vocals on this track--you can sense the optimism in the midst of the battle. As the situation continued unresolved, he had to “park” on this hot project for a while because of lack of funds. Thank God the wait is over!

Bro. James does concerts, but majors on doing revivals and camp-meetings. From Maine to Florida to California to Wisconsin, he has ministered in well over 500 churches in 31 states to date, plus three Canadian provinces, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, and, most recently, in Sri Lanka. James had planned the Sri Lankan trip for over a year before the tsunami and had the date “nailed down” for over three months prior to it. He was as surprised as anyone when he awoke on December 26, 2004 to discover what happened to the area where he would be going only five weeks later. Miller’s Evangelistic Association, a fellowship of churches in Pennsylvania, ascertained that he was going and sent funds by him for tsunami relief. These events made for a very effective missions trip, as the hearts were open for the Gospel.

Bro. James has always operated on a freewill offering basis, and goes anywhere God opens the door, regardless of the size of the congregation. Thus far that scope has ranged from 5 to 900, and both on the same trip, only eleven days apart.

James has not yet married. He preaches an uncompromising, undiluted message in the depth of God’s Word. Two great thrusts of his messages are the power of the Holy Ghost and the imminence of the Lord’s return.
