Bill Colgate is a singer/songwriter from Toronto Canada and winner of the 2nd Grand Prize Overall in the 2002 USA Songwriting Competition for his song "Let It Be There" from his debut CD "when dinosaurs ruled the earth". Bill''s achievement is especially significant in that his winning song is from his first CD, there were over 32,000 entrants from around the world, and his is the highest placing ever by a Canadian in the history of the contest including such esteemed artists as Shirley Eikhard and James Keelaghan.

Born and raised in Toronto, Bill has been a professional actor for over 20 years. As such he has appeared on stage, screen and television opposite such notables as Tommy Lee Jones, Diane Keaton, Matt Dillon, Anthony Edwards, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Kiefer Sutherland, Treat Williams, Tia Carrere, and Beau Bridges to name a few.

Bill has shared the concert stage with, among others, Ron Sexsmith, Bobby Wiseman (Blue Rodeo), Kevin Hearn (Bare Naked Ladies), and Amos Garrett. In addition to his major win with The USA Songwriting Competition one of Bill''s songs placed 5th in the Gospel/Inspirational Category of the first annual John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

In May of 2003 Bill showcased in New York City at The Red Lion in Greenwich Village and in Nashville at the world famous Bluebird Café

Bill''s song "The Emperor''s New Clothes" from his soon-to-be-released sophomore CD "Waiting For Simon" was chosen as a finalist in the 2003 Mountain Stage NewSong Festival.

Bill''s song "The Other Woman" was used in the film Landslide starring Anthony Edwards and Joanna Cassidy and was also recorded by Liz Tansey for her debut CD "What I Want".

Bill and his band The Urbane Guerillas have been featured at such Toronto venues as Vox, C''est What and The Rivoli. They are now about to mark the first anniversary of their Friday night residency at popular Toronto watering hole Graffiti''s.

Bill, as solo artist, has appeared at Hugh''s Room, Graffiti''s, 43 Below, The Rivoli, Mother''s Day Telethon ON TV, and Winterfolk I,II & III.
