Instrumental Funk/Rock/Jazz/Acid Freakout. "They may be the most important jazz-rock trio emerging from New York since the ''70s." - David Good, San Diego Reader

9 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Jam-band, JAZZ: Acid Jazz

Details:
Big Bucket hails from New York city where their brand of high energy instrumental groove based music has been drawing a legion of avid fans to their local shows. Described as a cross between Tony Williams Lifetime, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Sun Ra, Sly and The Family Stone and Medeski, Martin and Wood, "The Bucket" delivers the goods on it''s debut platter Nine Bucks a Day.

Here is what critic David Good, San Diego Reader, has to say about Big Bucket:

"Fusion is a demanding mistress, and Big Bucket is an exhilarating throwback to the earliest days of that high-speed genre. They may be the most important jazz-rock trio to emerge from New York since the early 70''s. Big Bucket mixes technically advanced instrumentation with a lucid understanding of the quick dynamics and complex themes that were the stock-in-trade of the best of the fusion players. On Nine Bucks a Day, Big Bucket reveal themselves as traditionalists and revisionists, pushing fusion just over the edge into something approaching jam band status -- minus the self-indulgence.

Keyboardist Nate Shaw, guitarist Tony Romano, and the drummer/percussionist Diego Voglino have woven a hundred influences into a new fusion of everything from funk to high cathedral to space tracks so deep that John McLaughlin would be proud to say they were his. It is an instrumental record awash in the tones of Shaw''s keyboards, including a trusty Hammond B3 organ. Romano''s guitar, for the most part, lays back. But when it surfaces, the results are pure magic. We the People for example, finds him tying and untying tensile knots in stunning counterpoint to Shaw''s explosive runs and Diego Voglino''s haunted maze of drumming. Romano, Shaw, and Voglino are each accomplished jazz sidemen in their own right. Together, they have crafted a collection of songs that will continue to entertain for years to come, much in the same way that old records by Alan Holdsworth, Miles, Corea, or Tony Williams can still summon the ghosts of their generation."
