Black Ant is a musically and visually exciting act comprised of Shydi Evans (lead vocals), Trevor Jones (drums vocals), Dennis Bunn (guitar) James Anthony (bass vocals} and D J Silver (turntables). The band is Washington DC based performing such venues as State of the Union, Nations, Club 5, The Cage (now the Black Cat), Jaxx, WKYS Unifest, and WPGC/WB50 Project X to name a few. In addition, the band has performed in New York''s famous clubs Lions Den, Don Hills, Joes Pub, SOB, Village Underground, Arlenes Grocery, and more recently an onstage appearance at Dream Nightclub DC with Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and Pharoah Monch also Atlanta GA''s Abbey UnderGrammy Awards and Baltimore''s Fletchers w/ 98 Rock''s Mat Davis Noise in the Basement.
The music of Black Ant is termed Urban Roc Hip-Hop and is best described as a mixture of rhythm & blues and hip-hop rhythms with an urban approach to Rock and Roll or alternative music. The lyrical content and vocal styling of lead singer Shydi Evans is at once ferocious and seductive, taking audiences on a thought provoking body shaking journey through the urban landscape heightened by the unyielding musical attack of the band. Shydi is also credited with scoring the soundtrack One Night of Freedom in Mario Van Peebles'' Posse, and can also be seen acting in the movie.
Black Ant has completed recording its first CD entitled "Invasion Us", under the Millennium Mind Hip Roc record label, aired on XM Radio to strong response which resulted in the band receiving interviews on at least 4 different XM stations, both in DC and New York and 98 Rock Baltimore. The group music video "Get Down" has aired on the WB50 Project X and two songs have been aired on Majic Johnson''s, MTV Got Game sports show, and announced as "Band To Watch" by Kurt Loder on MTV Newsbreak 10 to the hour. The band is currently recording its next album and currently doing a "HIP-ROCA-HOLIC SUNDAYS" celebrity concert series starting may 9th with national recording artist David Banner w/Trillville and special guest at Kilis Kafe and Lounge in Washington DC.
