Details:
The folk, world and alternative sounds of the Blue Lit Souls have intrigued audiences since their first show at Chicago''s Hideout in May of 1998. Comprised of musicians with varying influences and backgrounds, the Souls unite to form something truly unique and eclectic.
Captivating melodies and engaging harmonies are supported with unexpected sounds from a didgeridoo, a mandolin, a tin whistle, a cherry- red accordion and an array of percussion instruments including a Nigerian log drum and a handmade set of finely-tuned flowerpots. Funky bass lines and interlocking rhythmic crescendos form a solid, hypnotic backbone for the music.
Performing original and diverse songs of hope, grace and redemption with a modern folk/alternative twist, listeners struggle to make comparisons though some have sited 10,000 Maniacs, Loreena McKennit, Indigo Girls and the Corrs.
Kris Spilker (vocals and accordion), Kathryn Swezy (vocals and mandolin), Mark Swezy (bass guitar and didgeridoo...sometimes simultaneously!) and lead guitarist Lou Carlozo write the band''s original compositions while Jim Quinn (percussion) and Patrick Roane (drums and percussion) lay down the band''s powerful, ethnic rhythms.

The Blue Lit Souls'' debut CD, The Stairwell Years, is a collection of their best from the last several years performed live in Chicago.
